do ppl really like that hyphy tell me where to go shit?

its catchy as hell, but it seems like some big ass commercial movement into the mainstream, even before shit was all over mtv and radio, its like within the bay, that shit got played out real quick, and its all pop music it seems now...imo e 40 hasnt been dropping them like the 1 love days w the click...a lot of those hyphy songs are so repetetive and annoying to me...who are some of the real underground artists like rbl back in the day, not on this thizznation hyphy movement shit thats being done to death.

IMO it was just time for The Bay to re-invent its sound...The Bay wasn't feeling like it was getting the recognition so the sound was switched up to something more mainstream, in order to get a larger following.

I think a lot of it had to do with The South/Crunk putting the game in a full nelson...they made club music hot so The Bay saw that and capitalized.

Me personally, I just want The Bay to come up to shed some light on all the other types of great music we have out here ie Zion-I, Goapele, The Jacka, Team etc...

And if Hyphy was the way to get the foot in the door then I'm all for it.

True .

My question is this:

Whats going to stop people from writing off Hyphy as just a spin-off of Crunk music ?

I don't think there is an answer...thats why I think we need artists like The Team, Jacka, Quinn...and the rest of the artists that are NOT making hyphy music, to be exposed...but like I said...if hyphy is whats gonna grab the attention of the people, so that the other artists get a chance to shine, I'm all for it.

^ I think E-40 and Warner Bros. perpetuated that myth (That Hyphy is a rip off of Crunk) by introducing it as the cousin of Crunk. I'm sorry, but Hyphy is one word/culture that 4o didn't start nor was he or any of the Warner Bros. Execs there when it started. I had a problem with that from the gate, they commercialized something that was originaly mobish and grimey. Crazy how they exploited us, E-40 gambled the Bay on this one. Hope it pays off for 40's sake and for the image of the Bay's sake.

Then again, it ain't on 40. It's a lot of niggas abusin this hyphy shit to the point where it's starting to get super watered down.

I doubt it. I think it was smart of E-40 to 'nip it in the butt' so to speak, because the similarities in both styles of music are obvious. And it was better for 40 to expose it right from the jump....rather than having a bunch of cats point out the obvious with us looking oblivious to the fact. Just my .02

To a certain degree, maybe the bay IS the "new south" in terms of the Hyphy movement.

But if that's so, it's come full-circle, as I can remember when the South was the "new bay" as far as the influences which got the No-Limit shit poppin' when P took it back to New Orleans, which in turn pushed Cash Money into the limelight, and so on and so on..

that's real talk mayn it ain't like bay artists are puttin out full length hyphy albums. it's just that hyphy sound is what's appealin to mufuckas outside our region. if hyphy is what's gettin outsiders on our hype so be it, it ain't like hyphy was some made up gimmick to get people to look our way it's how mufuckas really get down out here. as for dude lookin for that old school mobb music mayn you gotta realize these cats is artist you can't make the same ass music for 2 decades and expect to gain fans you gotta do it movin.
