DJ Quik reunited with his former friend and rapper Sugafree during a performance at the House of Blues in Hollywood, California on Thursday (February 2).
During the performance, which lasted for nearly two hours and included a 12-piece live band, the legendary DJ Quik performed song after song -- including "Fandango" featuring B-Real and "Black Mercedes" featuring Nate Dogg -- before a packed HOB's crowd.
Toward the end of his performance, the band began to play solos, while Quik spat lyrics in-between. Just when the rapper's time on stage seemed as though it was coming to an end, Quik re-emerged and said he'd like to perform two songs he had previously performed over again, citing that he had forgotten the lyrics.
Quik broke into "Down, Down, Down," and right when Sugafree's verse was to began, the rapper ran out onstage to spit the lyrics himself before a shocked audience. With the crowd's applause reaching its peak the night, Sugafree rapped his verse to perfection, while DJ Quik danced in celebration, while popping a bottle of Dom P.
After closing at the final chorus to the track, the pair raised their bottles and cups in the air, toasting to their long overdue reunion.
"Me and DJ Quik are about to tear up the world again," Sugafree said before fans in attendance. "This goes out to the West Coast."
"I love this man. We are like brothers," Quik continued.
Sugafree and Quik proceeded with "Do I Love Her?," and ended the show with two of Quik's biggest hits, "Tonite" and "Born And Raised In Compton" -- off his debut album Quik Is The Name.
The beef between the pair began a few years back when Quik began to question the motives of the people he surrounded himself with, and eventually accused Sugafree of stealing from him -- specially, a beat he had produced for Dr. Dre that he alleges Sugafree took and sold for a mere $2,500.
The pair hasn't announced any future collaboration plans, but they did say they will definitely work together again, as well as focus on their own solo careers.
