I really wanna hear everyonez honest opinion on thiz one. A lot of artist sell CD's & DVD's based on radio, video, magazine ads & covers etc. At the same time a lot of these media outletz are very bias. For yearz I have been wondering what if all that shit waz tooken away 4 an entire year in Hip Hop & artist, labels, groups & producers had 2 sell off of quality not media marketing. Just plain word of mouth. Who would eat & who would starve??

IMO anyone that iz independent or haz been independent @ some point would bubble big time cuz they have a core audience that can recite all of there songz not one or two singlez. There shit iz more secure.

NY niggaz would starve 2 death cuz they're not really up on that Indie hustle like other regions are. They depend too much on the media 2 get their music out. I don't think most of that shit would sell outside of NY/NJ unless u were a die hard fan.

Look at who's big in the Underground right now...still movin hella copies without any mainstream advertisement. I'd say honestly Atmosphere, cuz they got a pretty loyal fanbase. Tech N9ne for sure, he's been all about word of mouth for a long time, and I think that the quality rappers in the mainstream now would still be up there (i.e. Eminem, Nas, etc.). I think that the "new" artists would be forgotten about in a second. If people weren't force-fed shit like they are on MTV and Radio these days, most of the artists played right now wouldn't have shit. IMO

U make a pretty solid point. These new niggaz would automatically vanish. TECH N9NE iz a perfect example of a rapper that would survive under those circumstsnces cuz thatz how how most of career been. I think Major labels would suffer hella bad cuz they would be forced 2 find someone with real talent & couldn't rely on a gimmick like they do damn near all the time.

if this happens, total sales will go dramatically down

probably nobody will sell much more than before, just because if there's no advertsing, few people will go and buy "No name rapper X"'s album just because somebody told them it's tight

U gotta understand that thatz how hip hop waz 20 yearz ago. Only the best shit made it through the shock waves. There were no Media ouletz & over hyped bullshit. If u waz tight niggaz would fuck with u, if u waz garbage your career ended right there.
