select light foreground, dark background (brown for example)
filter/render/clouds
filter/render/lighting effects: directional light/texture channel=red , about 50%
create new alpha channel and call it mortar
create lines (that will be the mortar)
select lines (ctrl+click on channel)
blur lines a couple of times with gaussian blur, each time with a lower setting
remove selection
blur with gaussian blur
apply liquify effects to give the lines a natural apperance
filter/render/lighting effects: directional light/texture channel=mortar channel, between 50-100%
This is the most difficult part. You will need to redo the effect a couple of times to get the proper effect. It’s important that the light is coming from the right direction.
create new layer
create new texture using the clouds filter in combination with other effects and end with filter/render/lighting effects: directional light/texture channel=red , about 50%
create layer mask from mortar channel
add numerous other (adjustment) layers containing other effects and try to use masks as much as possible
Use edit/transform to create perspective and try to combine numerous other walls. You will need smaller bricks/stones to make it look more natural; I only showed a few to save me time and this way I was also able to show more detail. Make sure that you know where your light source is. You can create an even more realistic appearance by using filter/distort/replace...
