being a seller, re-issues suck! this happened a few times already where i've had a few copies of some rare cd that i was planning to sell only to find out it's been reissued so the value suddenly drops like a mutha. here's a few

OC - word...life
Young D Boyz
Main Source - breaking atoms (reissue is a bootleg i'm pretty sure, covers are whack in color)
Jedi Mind Tricks
Binary Star
57th St. RDV (wasn't really reissued but all of a sudden there was a flood of copies)

there's a lot more i just can't remember right now. anyway, i guess it's a good thing for buyers but i'm just getting tired of seeing the value drop.

The Rogue Dog thing was a freak thing. One guy landed their entire inventory and he just flooded the market. If he was smart, he would have sat on them and list them one at a time. It would probably still be considered rare. I think in a year or two, they will go back up. 18,000 copies is a lot for an underground artist, but once Tech hits mainstream, 18,000 will be considered rare. I hope, because I have a lot.

You have to look at reissues from 2 viewpoints: as a collector/seller, and as a music fan.

Yes, reissues suck when you're trying to make some dough. They're REALLY wack when you buy something that was passed off as an original...if you're a seller, it's your responsibility to know what you're doing. Do your homework.

But reissues are a good way to get hear stuff you haven't yet. I didn't mind scooping up a Young D Boyz reissue because I couldn't find the original for under $20.

My only beef is when reissues are almost exactly the same as the OG. I wouldn't care if "Troubled Mind" got re-released, as long as it had a 2004 copyright on the back so it was easy to tell.

I agree to. I really don't want Tech's WORST OG to be reissued, then again, it will cost a small fortune to own one now. If they would rerelease it, put 2 bonus tracks on it, I can actually afford to own it again. If I had 20 copies of it, I would say never release it, so I could continue getting $300 plus, but I don't.

Actually, all those RDV Summer Edition CD's are re-prints. For people who have the first print that was in stores, u can compare them and see a major color difference. Even the disc face has a different texture.

Roguish Ways was the same however, because they pressed up so damn many to begin with.. which is 1 of the reasons they went way under.

Just my 2 cents :)

I hear what you're saying, but it brings up this question: are the people slanging boxes of rare CD's being greedy and pimping out the artist for money? Imagine if you were Tech N9ne, and some muthafucka was making $200 off each "Worst" CD he sold. You'd be pissed. And you'd want to re-release your CD so more people could get it, and more importantly, you could get paid.

Like Too $hort once said, "It's first about the music, not money. If you get those twisted, you gotta get the fuck outta the game."

I remember a few months ago i bought about 16 sealed Tech N9ne/Worst 2k CDs and weren't makin as much as I wanted. I was selling em for $65 apiece and tradin away some of them.. all of a sudden people started buying them again at $120-$145..

Commenting on Lil Zane's Reply..
I honestly don't think ALL artists would get that mad. If anything they should be hella happy to see people willing to buy their albums at a high price. I remember Be Gee saw me selling his cd on ebay and he hollered at me shocked as hell.. But he wasn't mad.. Also one of Marv Mitch & Lemay's homeboy saw my listing of their cd back when I sold it for $105 and he was happy as hell to tell Marv MItch & Lemay that their cd is popular as hell...

Yeah, I don't know what to think. If was Tech, I would be happy to see my older material sell for $200. It would make me confident as I could be going into my next album. I agree he probably is a little frustrated, but I might ask him the next time I run into him, if I ever do again, what he thinks about online sales and the prices that are being paid for his older stuff. It would shock me to see him upset, I would see Tech as a guy that would say great music is hard to find, so do whatever it takes.

That is probably right. They did print to many and I bet they were riding the success of Tech and figured their sales would go hand in hand with Tech's. I really don't know about what is a good print run for an underground rap artist, but if the excess inventory in their control was nearing 20000, then they probably had at least double that to begin with. Does anyone really know how many Roguish Ways were pressed? I'd like to know. Hopefully, b/c of Tech, they will have a value once again, maybe 10 years from now.
