"Hyphy (pronounced high-fee; IPA: [ˈhaɪfiː]]) is a style of music and dance associated with Oakland hip hop culture. It began to emerge in early 2000 as a response from Bay Area rappers against commercial hip hop for not acknowledging the Bay for setting trends in the hip hop industry.[1] Although the "hyphy movement" has just recently seen light in mainstream America, it has been a long standing and evolving culture in the Bay Area. oh and its more of a bay area culture not oakland....i dont care what anyone says about where it originated but Fairfield and Vallejo also contributed to blowin it up (Feds and 40) next thing we know cats gonna be saying, "hyphy is not an Oakland thing it originated on a certain block by a half black half chinese guy so if you aint them dont rep it!!!"

I don't care what you say, Vallejo and the Federation simply endorsed it, it has always been an Oakland thing. That's actually how it became gimmicky, when everybody jumped on the Town bandwagon actin like they really knew how shit went down. Niggas watered that shit down when they started rappin about it. But I think that we all know that most of the slang in hyphy(what it do, go dumb, hyphy, etc.) are all town words, I remember when no one but town niggas talked like that, now that E-40 and the Feds got on MTV, everybody else in the Bay wanna act like it's a "Bay thing".. I don't even have to mention sydeshows and the Get Stupid dance(which is hella old and niggas is just now catchin on).
