We all heard the stories about how rappers get in the game and make they mark, but it's harder to get in and make a name as a producer/beat maker. So what Im askin is how do the folks behind the beats get out there and get with the right people and make a name for themself? I know its some cats on this board that do it (sean t, e a ski, bosko, etc ) so let it be known....P

a producer comes up by hooking up with the right rappers and producing tight songs.
the same way a rapper could come up by collaborating with more established rappers

its all in who you know, and in the bay its all love, so you see cats come up all the time

one word: NETWORK...start from the ground up...Meaning today u may not be working with your idols, but start with the cats that are hungry just like you...and also if an opportunity comes up for you to put somethin on a bigger project, don't be to proud to GIVE a few tracks away

my suggestion is if you are just starting and you got talent get on as much shit as you can give out free beats and get exposure I know you work your ass off and dont want to give anything free but you gotta sacrifice to make money and a name for yourself also if you know people that rap and they are tight and just as serious as you then see if you can produce their album and if it does well or creates a buz then that album will reflect on your work because you had something to do with its success then people will be houndin you for production I've seen it happen it works trust me the main thing is are you willing to sacrifice and work hard peace!!!!

look at lil jon's situation, he was working with too short back in 99.....and here it go 2004. Too Short is a known dood, and the tracks they did together....were straight HEAT! really just keep at it and work with the ones that are beyond hungry, STARVING even. Your name will get out there. Work, work, and keep workin. Look at Jerry Rice too....arguably the best player ever, but he also worked harder than any other player to get to where he got....keep that in mind aye

i found that you gotta get in touch with as many rappers..... obviously ones you think got potential, or are well known, and hit em with all you got.... know that you shouldn't be trying to sell stuff to em either. trust me after you get to working with more and more people, lesser known people will start inquiring about prices. and its all about work work work as is anything else.

That aint always true...just look at the whole Bay situation these days...they aint doin the level of quality that they did in the mid to late 90's but the Bay still puts out some of the best music in rap and they aint makin much noise outside of the west coast.

If that was a question that you could answer I think it would be hella more better music out there...you cant tell somebody how to make great music, its either in you or it aint.

@ everybody who is responding...Thanks for the feedback though...its appreciated...lookin forward to some more opinions...

BE HUMBLE. BE SMART. and most importantly, BE PREPARED.

You will NEVER get put on by acting desparate or by expecting people to act in your best interests (especially if it's in conflict with theirs).
