The other day on MTV Jams I was watching the ozone awards, and I thought to myself, man they got real artists that sold a lot of records coming out of the south and wouldnt it be dope if we had artists, more than 2 artists, do more than 500,000????? Think how big the BARS awards would have been?

This Year we had Keyshia Cole (Platnium) and E-40 (Gold), that's it. Our biggest independent artist was San Quinn and he only sold 20,000 this year. It's not that the Bay doesnt buy units. E-40 has sold over 64,000 CD's in the Bay alone. So I know CD can sell out here. Look at the Hoodstarz, they sold 1,300 their first week and they had one of the biggest records, "Grown Man."
The Team did around 2,000 units their first week and they had 7 songs on the radio! Bay Area please stand up! Lil Bossie from little ass Baton Rouge sold 40,000 fuckin records his first week. He's independent as well, and he has a wack ass single, "Zoom."

Is it the Radio??? I hear a lot of Bay records on KMEL and 94.9, so me personally I dont think it's on them. I talk to Big Von all the time and he thinks 99% of this shit is trash, but he says that he continues to play Bay records because of his personal relationships with the artists personally.

So people lets strategize. All the new artists and even the old ones we have to come up with non-traditional ways to distribute our albums. Tower went under and there's less than ten mom and pops out here. All we have is Rasputins, not knocking them. There's not even any record stores in Oakland and the one that is there is never open? Oakland is KMEL's main target market and the artist from Oakland get no success from album sales because their are no stores. Beeda Weeda has been getting his song played for the last 2 months on KMEL and his main audience cant even find his CD! I believe that it's going to have to take stores like Sheik and 20/20 fashion to have to start selling CD's in order for us to sell. People we have to get liquor stores and other urban lifestyles to carry our CD's. The tradional distribution of the past is stuck there in "THE PAST." Lets figure out our future.

Why do are people from the bay so starved for attention??? I mean its pretty damn pathetic when people are making threads about seeing glimpses of bay area music on television or E-40 growing his hair out...People from the bay hate on music from other regions that blows up (TI, Jeezy, Rick Ross, G-Unit etc) but its ok for someone from the bay to blow up? So E-40 goes gold....did that in any way make your life better??? People from the bay are desperate to see their artists get attention, but when someone from another region says "ghostriding the whip" or wearing a Mac Dre t-shirt people from the bay get all upset....Isnt that what you wanted??? Other regions to listen to your music?????...Good music is going to come out of the bay regardless of whether or not MTV plays it...And if people from the bay want their artists to sell more albums then BUY dont download...that would make a difference by itself.

Oh yeah I forgot....OH MY GOD!!! THE BAY IS BACK!!!

I've been saying for years that (as a collective) the bay area rap consumer has NO idea what he/she really wants.

Stop worrying abou them being on "Top" They are not on "Top" because the majority of music comming out of here is pure trash. Everytime my family comes out here to visit they be clowning mad hard. The only time the Bay even deserved recognition was when they did. That was in the early/Mid 90's when there was actually some good hiphop comming out of here. NO gimmicks just good music. Until these fools start making some good music again. I could give a fuck about anything out here music wise.

kids kids kids,

first off stop judging each other when it comes to this,we have lack of support and unity out here, this goes far beyond bay area rap and hip hop, solve this and u will find the answer to the problems.

kmel and wild yes are the only "major" radio stations in the northern region of california, many people look at these people as fucking gods, and they are not, just a small medium you can use to help furthur your selfs, but however you are not limited to these 2stations,its politics in between this radio play shit, and if u aint got no big dough or no serious connections with industry cats and or djs/producers/managers it will be 10x harder to get put on.

invest in your craft, learn the business, buy a music powers book, get all the information needed to succeed in this business because it is very cutthroat out here yadidimean? stack yo bundle and market in out side areas, get on tv,get on the new show pass the mic hip hop television for only 200$ less then the price of 5,000 fliers and get promoted in outside markets w/ over 200,000 viewers, plus u perfrom 3 songs,10min interview and a commericial.

how deep u wanna get into it,the bay is fucked up internally, and alot of ppl tied in this industry is playin hella mind games wit ppl but hey

"I think people who don't know how to rap should try somethin' else. And if you friends with somebody that's tryin' to rap and they don't know how to rap, tell 'em man... 'You don't know how to rap! Give it up!'"

The bay was never on top. Cali the state was on top at one point and time. Thats when artist from L.A to sacramento where networking and showing that luv.
nah, the bay was major in the early 90s. remember thats before the south blew, before the midwest and all that. it was really NY, LA, and the Bay. and for awhile, based on Hammer, DU and others, bay area rap was the shit nationally.
