pop filter - (you need this shit to rap wit, if you can't buy one then make one, lol)

all that above is my whole basic set-up. i know other people that have big & better set-up's but thatz all i can tell you. also get a mic stand too.

See the homie is sending me some beats and I need to know what I need to record over them. Will a program like cool edit and a good stand up mic do? I just need the basic setup and something that is very cheap but at the same time making my music sound almost professional.

what kinda mic do you use samos?

First of all, if you want professional quality, then go record in a good studio, you will not get anything near professional quality at home. Computer w/ Shure SM58 = pretty basic quality if you know what your doing and about 3 million miles away from professional. I have a Rode NT1 microphone, and thats average.. it competes with microphones in the 200-600$ range. If you want decent quality you have to know how to mix and you gotta have a ear for it... that takes years and years of practice, and you will need atleast $300-500 put in for equipment these days.

I don't recommend a shure sm58 , its a live-dynamic mic... its rugged for performances.. it is not a studio condenser, but allot of people use it as a budget mic, you would be better off with a Behringer B1, it shits on the SM58 10 times over and is probably the best bang for your buck... supplement that with a basic preamp w/ phantom power... like a Rolls... or you can purchase a basic mackie mixer which should last you longer time and it has more features like EQ and connections for more equipment (monitors, more mics, etc)

Cost money man, today isn't no 4-track tape recorder and dynamic 50$ mic days,, you need atleast 300-500$ to get started...

If you have no cash at the moment, I doubt you can afford a decent setup because you need phantom power and that is 75$ alone...if you wanted the wwhole works (preamp,eq,phantompower, etc) then a basic mixer runs from 75 to 500. Then the basic condensers runs for 50 to 500-600$... this would be hooked up to your mixer, then you need a decent soundcard w/ a break-box so you can hook up your mixer up to your computer, that runs from 50 all the way to 600$ .... you also need headphones, etc and without monitors you cannot mix properly.... so you see even a basic setup is gonna be a fat little penny.

but, YOUNG K9, it depends on what your're plannin to do wit the songs you make. if you wanna put some shit in stores, then you should invest more money into yo shit, or go to a studio, which is what i'm doin.

i got 1 audio song up, that was recorded on the computer. i spit the 2nd verse, but all verses were recorded on the computer, just different one's. title of the song is "Untitled".

Every SLR album except for the first FTS was done on a PC in Cubase.....with a Rode NT1 mic. I picked up a DBX376 analog mic pre-amp a while back too and I'm very happy with the tracks I record now. I would like to get a better mic in the future when my budget allows though....probably a Neumann.

You need to know how to record your source.....and how to mix them. If it sounds like shit comin' in.....it's gonna sound like shit comin' back out.....remember that.

Not a bad way to spend 500$ on a pre-amp :) Must be killer, my mixer was only $120 SO you see the crazy budget I was on. After the summer Im gonna have a shitload of extra cash so Imma go on a shopping spree, muwhaha

Nt1's are really good, I heard the B2 shits on it though...
