Toddler's Body Found During Search For SoCal Child
PALMDALE, Calif. (AP) ―
Authorities in Los Angeles said they have found the body of a toddler believed to be an 18-month-old girl whose mother reported her missing under unusual circumstances.
The case has been turned over to homicide detectives.
Los Angeles police spokeswoman Aura Sierra said the girl's mother told authorities she last saw her daughter, Emma Leigh Barker, at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Lancaster in northern Los Angeles County.
The mother, whose name has not been released, said she was putting Emma into a car seat at Lancaster City Park when she was knocked unconscious. The mother said that when she woke up her daughter was missing.
Sierra said the mother reported her daughter missing to sheriff's deputies at 9 a.m. Thursday.
The body was found in the Mission Hills area of Los Angeles.
