LAID MAGAZINE INTERVIEW BY SISTA D " GEMINI"

MAKIN MOVES BY SISTA D
In the music business it's all about hard work. What you put into your career is definitely what you're going to get out of it. Whether it be getting signed to a major label, or blowing up as an indie. It's pure hustle and grind that puts an artist on the map. Of course talent plays a big role in the whole equation, but if you're not putting yourself out there for people to hear and more importantly to know about, what are you doing it for right? I have always had a strong belief that every artist has a story that needs to be told, and California native Gemini is certainly no exception. Born and raised in Soledad, California( Monterey County to be exact), the west coast rapper would begin his passion like so many of today's artists rapping over instrumentals, eventually putting out a six song demo using a tape recorder distributed amongst friends. It was this early hunger and word of mouth that spread thru his hometown creating a buzz and demand to release a second mixtape "Catch of the Day". Fred Fish, as he was called, quickly reeled in a fan base along with the ripple affect of hometown fame. His next move would be to step up his game when he purchased a karaoke machine, crates of instrumentals, a mic, VCR, and plenty of movies for skits. Of course, it couldn't have been done without the hottest tracks out at the time from Dr. Dre to Dj. Quik. Gemini soon moved his way up to original beats stacking tracks for what he considered to be his last mixtape in 98 "The Last Bootlegs". It seemed that finally Gemini would get the break and respect he worked so hard to achieve. But in light of all the good fortune that was going on with his music, his personal life took a turn that would put his music career on hold when his mother was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and like the devoted artist he is, the devoted son stepped up to care for her. But even though Gemini was going thru this adversity, his love and passion for music never wavered. Instead he took this time off to reflect on what he was going thru in hopes that his experience would someday help others. It would be the full recovery of his mother and the life challenging obstacles that would kick Gemini into high gear with the release of his long waited album "Casualties of Life" under his own label "2Face Entertainment" featuring Yukmouth (The Lunis), and later collaborating with Mr.Kee, Young Droop, and Kaos the Assassin. Gemini has also had the privilege to network with some of the biggest names in the music industry such as Mac Dre(R.I.P.), The Outlaws(2pac), Celli Cell, Spice1, Devin the Dude, E-40 and The Click, and former keyboard player Ray Manzarek of the sixties rock band "The Doors". Gemini's resume reads like the seasoned vet he is, having looked hardship in the eye and chose to keep pushing when most would have given up. You can look forward to his new release "Gemini: Walking Tall", a new up-tempo venture currently in the works. With that kind of heart, I have a feeling Gemini will be around for along time!
