Music Recording Industry (MRI) "Record Distribution" (3 units)

This Seminar is a comprehensive study of the record industry system. It also offers students hands-on experience with current projects already in motion with in the distribution system, in conjunction with the distribution A&R department implementing alternative components for successful A&R campaigns. The importance of distribution is stressed along with importance of the roles sales, marketing, promotions: radio, retail, trades, consumer print, street promotions and college network. Marketing through cutting edge Web technology and how to incorporate into retail distribution networks supporting sound scan capabilities is discussed. The product distribution system, wholesale/retail mark-ups, pricing strategies, major chain, rack jobbers, one-stops, and independent stores are also examined.
