A few problems? Elaborate...
Why would Adobe release new versions if they were not as good? Did you ever stop to think that maybe you adjusted to the old over the new? It happens a lot. And why are you using versions CS and 8? Why not one? What does one not have? Normally the only differences are layout changes and added features so I don't see the problem? I've been using Illustrator 10 for awhile and it works great.
Well I have been using Adobe Illustrator since it was version 3.5. I have been working as a Professional designer since I was 16 years old. I use Illustrator every single day and i draw very complex things with it. I am not some new jack that is fresh of the boat and has problems adjusting.
In version 9 they introduced the Transparency feature. They created this feature to compete with Macromedia freehand. The problem with this feature is service bureau's could not output seperations to print your files printed on a press. This was a major set back and the solution was to rasterize your work(like paste into photoshop) It also had a lot of probelms with pdf. It didnt not truely write a pdf, it wrote its own version of it and when you would open it in another application it would look for those illustrator componets.
In version 10 Adobes big thing was New Web Tools and they killed all the support for 3rd party plug in's like Kpt vector effects, etc...Illustrator doesnt need all the Web development tools and stuff...you can do all of that in photoshop and you can draw vectors in flash. If you export a vector from Ill as a swf and open it in flash the file size is huge. It is better just to draw it in flash if thats what you need it for. Adobe strayed away from what Illustrator is mainly for, leaving a whole industry of sign makers, illustrators, etc screwed. The application itself has memory leaks and requires a lot of ram.
I personally use adobe illustrator 8 because a lot of venders I use for stickers, applique's, screen printing, and various other output's still use Illustrator 8 and it is a straight up drawing program without all the fluff and fake 3d shit. I use Adobe CS because it runs native on a Mac and they worked out a lot of bugs and I do not have to launch classic mode to run it.
Adobe wants to beat out microsoft(Avalon) to having a big stake in the web market. That is why adobe purchased macromedia. They could not compete. They tried with such products as Live motion, and they see that as the future of the companys revenue. For now adobe's bread and butter is Photoshop which is industry standard. So every bozo that has photoshop thinks he or she is a designer...
