New Line Cinema has agreed to contract terms with legendary hip hop music producer Dr. Dre (aka André Young). He will be producing a number of movies under the movie company umbrella Crucial Films.
Dr. Dre has been wanting to get into the movie business for several years. He has reached out to several Hollywood companies to see what it would take to get involved. The feelers that he sent out turned into genuine interest by Dr. Dre. He wanted the opportunity to produce his own films. His goal is to gain enough experience so that he can eventually direct his own movies.
It is being reported by Movies.com that Dr. Dre will start out producing some comedies and then some horror projects before trying his hand at directing. What the movie projects will be is still in question. The signing of Dre. Dre marks one of the first times that the movie company is reaching out to a hip hop producer to produce movies. He followed his debut album with several more albums that were recognized for their unique and heavy hitting beats. Artists in the rap industry started to ask Dr. Dre to do producing for his records. Dr. Dre then decided to stop releasing his own albums and working behind the scenes. He is responsible for helping Eminem reach stardom.
