A music awards night had to be abandoned at the weekend when a fight between two factions turned into a mass brawl.
Five people were hospitalised after the DMV hip-hop awards in Arlington, just outside Washington D.C., turned violent.
Many onlookers screamed and ran for the exit, while others videotaped the violent scenes and later put the footage on YouTube.
More than 1,500 artists, fans and promoters had crammed into the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Crystal City on Saturday for the fifth annual ceremony, which celebrates emerging hip-hop talent in Washington D.C, Maryland and Virginia.
According to the Washington Post, not everyone had a seat, and as the night wore on those who lost out started booing the winners.
About halfway through, at 9.45pm, a fight broke out between two crews during a break. The fight quickly spiralled out of control, and around 50-60 people threw themselves into the fray.
In the YouTube footage, you can hear screams and shouts as people throw chairs against the walls, smash glasses and hurl themselves onto each other.
