I was watching the Discovery channel last night....and something I never knew was discussed....

They talked about how there is no stories in egyptian history or stories written in hyroglifics (sp?) anywhere....
There were Egyptian historians debating about whether this event ever actually took place...because the only source of this story is the bible. Its not talked about anywhere else...

now some christians argued ..WHY WOULD THE PHAROAH PUT SUCH A TRAVESTY OR EMBARRASING STORY IN THEIR HISTORY?

and the historians, as well as, scienctist claimed THEY WOULD HAVE...because Egyptians kept track of all events...even civil wars and such.

So.......anyway...

this was a very interesting topic and im glad I got to see it.

what is your guys take?

they may of made records but maybe a later pharaoh could of had them destroyed. but as of evidence on what happened there is a show about mount sinai that was pretty intresting that was on fox not to long ago. showed some people snoopin around where they wasn't suppose to be and they think they found where the 10 commandments were made.

the main points they made about the mountain were that it had a black top, a cave at a certain place, there were a gathering of huge rocks with cows engraved in them, and also they think they found an altar. but the huge rocks with the cow engraved in them had a huge fense around it.

Edit: if you want to know why i think a phoraoh may of got rid of the records, i think it could of been of the holy spirit. i don't know if there is any biblical acount but i hear preachers talking about the holy spirit moving national leaders to make a decision like that. one is the census from ceaser where it talks about mary having to get up so she could take acount for herself threw the census, and she was preganent threw the time. where she landed was bethelahem, where jesus was born and the scriptures fullfilled.

Actually Hebrew historian Josephus connects the ancient Jews to the Hyksos invaders of Egypt's late Middle Kingdom. There is written record in Egyptian history in the form of an Exodus around the same time frame of the Jews, it was the Hyksos invasion, and they got ran out of Egypt by Pharaoh Ahmose of Thebes (hence the linguistic similarity to Moses). Manetho, an Egyptian priest wrote about this incident about 100 years before Christ, under the order of the Greco-Romans. He detailed the war and the Exodus, claims that there was a rebel Egyptian priest by the name of Osarsiph who left Egypt with thousands of "lepers", and were pursued to the borders of Syria. Josephus equates Syria with Canaan and Jerusalem. The Hyksos are confirmed to have spoken a Canaanite language and Hyksos its self means Shepard Kings or "Captive Shepards". Coincidence? Read this..

I agree with this. Although scholars have disputed the actual meaning of the word "Hyksos." I think the titular "Shephard King" thing has been all but disproven. "Foreign Invaders" I think is closer to what it should be.

Also something worth nothing. Egypt, after the rule of the Hyksos, was known to have destroyed most of their history referencing that time period in which Egypt was under foreign rule. Making the exodus very possible at having occured at this time.

^^Indeed.. Another point in favor of the Hyksos theory is that opposing sides will always have different views on what exactly happened. According to the Egyptians, the Hyksos were pillagers, viciously ran out of Egypt due to their cruelty and conquest.. Of course the Jews (possibly Hyksos) described the Egyptians as pagan slave bearers. The story line is basically the same though, despite the absence of the dramatic "God" element of the Biblical tale in the Egyptian account. What's also striking is that this exodus is what sparked Egypt's 18th Dynasty, the very dynasty in which later on Akhenaten is the first pharaoh (and apparently first person recorded) to ever adopt a form of Monotheism.
