I havent bought a cd in a while that someone hasnt reviewed so I decided to go back a year or so.

San Quinn- The Mighty Quinn
2001 Champeli Ent.

1. Intro- Stomp Down lays down some pimp shit. Nothing special.

2. Q2020- Quinndo spits absolute fire with predictions of an Apocolyptic America. Hardcore lyrics with a great concept and great visionary rhymes. The beat is fast paced, a little bit of a hip hop style in that theres not a lot of different sounds. The best track on the album no doubt. 10/10

3. Give it Up- This was Quinn's first single. The lyrics were well done and the beat was also done pretty well. The only problem with it that I have is the way the beat stops during the chorus and the chorus only says "Give it Up" over and over. 7/10

4. Get a Little Stoopid- Quinn spits to a laid back beat with a constant whipping sound in the backround. The producer did a good job of adding backround sounds to the beat as well. "Get a little stoopid, in my drop porshe boxers, in my T Shirt and my boxers, high as a rasta." Though the subject matter seems to stray from the bay area staple of drug dealing and thuggin its still a good track. 7.5/10

5. 15 Chickens- Another pimp track to a slow paced beat. Quinn comes hard lyrically as always with a great guest appearence from Gonzoe. Another good track. 7.5/10

6. Bound 2 Ball- Quinns flow goes with this track like bread and butter. The lyrics hit at the right time throughout the whole song. "Shining like a glossy bossy saucy, like spagetti about my fetti don't cross me...unforgetable-like Myskikal-inpecable..." He spits about being bound to ball cause he's dope and he needs to finish what hes started. Excellent track. 10/10.

7. Time- This track slows it down a little. This is more of a love song about Quinndo and some broad. It was probly put on the album to attract a female audience, but is something good for everyone. 8/10

8. Cuddlin Aint Hustlin- Quinn, D-Fresh, D-Moe and Willie Henn spit another flamer with a pimp-style. The beat they rap to is not your typical "Mob" cut you hear from bay rappers. It sounds a little bit east coast influences with the trumpet. Another solid track. 8/10

9. Sunshine- Another one of my favorites on the cd. This is definitely a summertime bbq banger. Quinn and Justice spit a laidback flow right to the tune of the bassline. An added guitar sound in the backrounds drops a vacation feel to the beat. 10/10

10. What I Need- Another track probably added to attract a female audince. But still, its an excellent track, the production was done above average, and the chorus is original. A good effort. 7/10

11. Reach for the Stars- Quinn spits about being tired of being branwashed and reaching for his own ideas and stars. Originally I wasnt really feeling this, but its definitely grown on my since because the lyrics make SO MUCH SENSE compared to the average MTV/BET Viacom driven product. The production is a little repetitive but added backround sounds help keep the listener intuned. 8.5/10

12. The Game- San Quinn and PSD spit a bay area anthem. Quinn switches up the production back to that mobbed out funk that bay is famous for. I still can't figure out why this didnt make it on the radio. "We playas in the bay, we stayin this way, we playin this way, from san francisco to san jose, from oakland vallejo to sacramento, we ride in the Lex and passin endo." 10/10

13. Our Space- Quinn and Gonzoe spit to a kind of goofy beat. It has some kind of chinese sample that drops in too. Good lyrics, not any ground breaking shit like Q2020 but worth a listen. 7/10

14. Slumps- "Slump for your trunk, chest fulla skunk, smellin like a skunk, remmy in my cup, semmi on my lap, Fully Loaded like the group." A nicely produced cut with a nice beat produces magic when you let Quinn flow. He flips his words back and forth...another amazing song. "Relax cat, twist one, take one, pop one, lookin for hot shit? I gots some I drops some." 9.5/10

15. Born in the Ghetto- Quinn spits some real shit on this on. All about the ghetto, the bad shit that happens, the way its been institutionalized by families and predessecors. An interesting concept and overall a good song. 8/10

16. First to Speak- A bay area type beat with a God-Father field. Another interesting track which reminds me a lot of born in the Ghetto. A good ending to the cd. 8.5/10.

Overall a hard album. A lot of good cuts. Anyone who hasnt heard this should pick it up. I like Quinns first album and Explosive Mode better but this album is much more versatyle and Quinns flow and lyrics are a lot better and advanced than they were in his early days.

Overall Rating: 8.5/10

In my opinion Quinns best solo cd was "Live N Direct." It was his first cd (other than "The Young Baby Boy" which was only released on tape and limited) and it was produced by JT the Bigga Figga. The reason why I like it so much is the production was very original and Quinn spit a rugged flow about a lot of different shit from "What Goez on" to "Life Without Music" to Caught in the Rapture" etc. The only thing about this CD is Quinns flow is very limited and one or two dimensional compared to his later releases, especially this one the Might Quinn.

San Quinn and Messy Marv-Explosive Mode is right up with Live N Direct if not above it. The production was excellent featuring a variety of producers who had some futuristic production compared to a lot of the shit released in late 97 early 98. The subject matter isnt as broad as Live N Direct but is just as much in your face and to the point...definitely a Yay Area classic.

Id suggest picking up whatever Quinn CDs you can get your hands on...though in order my favorites are:

Live N Direct
Explosive Mode
The Mighty Quinn
The Hustle Continues
