Marcus “Buff” Bagwell joined the show for the second time to talk about what he’s been up to since his last visit in September while deferring questions from fans in the chat room.
Buff said, “I’ve been absolutely swamped,” when talking about his work schedule. He said he worked 14 cities so far in March. He said he’s lucky that he’s so busy and can making a living wrestling in the indys. Buff talked about the various cities, promoters, and vibes that each environment presents and made a point to talk about the recent World Wresting Legends show he did in Orlando, Florida. He said the show “was a big deal” with such talent in the house as Diamond Dallas Page, Disco Inferno, Koko B. Ware and the Steiner brothers.
When he was asked about his signature top hat, he said, “You let me go one place without the top hat and I hear about it.” He said, “If they remember, that’s what they want,” referring to the hat as well as the outfits, tattoos, and goatee. When he was asked whether said hat led to his firing at WWE, he said, “It ain’t true.” Buff said he worked hard to fit in there when WCW merged with WWE and still doesn’t know why he was let go. Buff was asked if his firing had anything to do with Gregory “Hurricane” Helms. Buff made a point to say, “I did not bring this up!!” but admitted to having a “little scuffle” with Gregory. He said, “I slapped him. He hit me with a bottle.” He attributes his release to “bad timing” and said, “I’d love to work for Vince again” calling Vince “a genius.”
Buff was asked about his movie career with has alos included some soft porn in the past. He said he just finished a movie called “The Red Knot” with Rick Schroeder and Burt Reynolds. He said what started as “no big deal” became a really big deal. Buff plays a lead role in the movie as “Huey,” which he described as “a babyface bad guy.” He talked about doing soft porn and said he has no regrets. He said it was often uncomfortable because the husbands of the actresses who he starred with were often present. And about the “gay movies,” he said, “It doesn’t bother me at all” and “I’m not homophobic at all.” He joked about wrestling that “my shirt was off every week wrestling another man” which is not much different.
Buff said his reputation often precedes him. Even though he says he’s a nice guy, people think he will stir up a locker room with his presence. He said, “I’ve been in trouble since I was 16,” referring to some of his infamous “scuffles.” One such scuffle involved Ernest “the Cat” Miller. Many people thought Buff took his “parodies” too far when he came out in black face during a match with Ernest but said, “We did get in a scuffle at Sturgis but not over that.” He said he used to also mimic the Steiners and even aped Mark McGuire in St. Louis once, burning his jersey in the process.
Buff, who says he’s currently talking with TNA, said next month he will be selling some of his gear from past gimmicks on his Web site, www.therealbuff.com, including from his first character, “Fabulous Fabian,” the “Handsome Stranger” gimmick, and Buff stuff.
