I'm listening right now. I like your mans production on the 3rd song. Out of the three songs you posted up the C3 sounds best imho, and I think the majority of the people here will agree with that. If you have the ability to use a filter while recording do so as this will get rid of some of the muddiness the other mics cause. Everything recorded with the NT1A does sound muddy, but this doesn't mean the mic is a bad mic because Mr.Cleen has clean sounding tracks (no pun intended) and he is using the same mic. IMHO, the other mics are picking up more of the rooms characteristics than anything else. The reason I say this is because I'm listening to the quiet passages in your songs. A good example is "Rollin em up". You can get a good idea of whats going on by listening to 52 seconds to 57 seconds (especially when you say "put my hands to WORK")

What pre amp are you using?

I'm using a lil 100 dollar pre.. The PreSonus TubePRE

and yeah, i think i might just sell this mic and get the Studio Projects again..i'm having a hard time matching up vocals that I did with that mic with these other mics...

plus i wanna see what the finished product sounds like mixed/and mastered with the C3...if it sounds clean like it does with the raw vocals i can only imagine what it sounds like post-production..

While that pre amp is inexpensive, it is a good pre amp to have. Electronic Musician gave it 18 points out of 20, and I usually find their scores to be consistent and unbiased.

What are you running the pre amp into? What soundcard/interface?

Btw, the vocals recorded with the other mics don't sound "terrible" but the use of eq and compression can make them sound better, but the other mic sounds best to my ears.

I'm running my pre-amp into my delta 66 soundcard..

pretty much my setup is under a G including my monitors and i think i get pretty good sound...

next thing is trying to get this pro tools to start working..I mean I installed it but i don't know that well how to move around in it...and I want to start recording through there so i can get mixes from anybody that mixes pt files..right now im dealing with Sonar 3 P.E. and its cool but I dont know many people that know how to mix thru that..

Greetings...

It has been some time since I have posted anything in this forum...but I thought I would chime in on this one.

For everybody's info...especially K9...all of these albums:

FTS - Money Motivated
IK - Kash Me Out
Syko - Sykotherapy
Byrdie - Poetic Epidemic

were recorded using a RODE NT1 (the OG) running straight into the Mackie board using their preamp. I didn't get an actual outboard pre-amp until 2002.
