Damn, I've run into a few people from my H.S. days and realized just how people live through their "fads" and switch up when it comes to muzicc and their own image; how they dress, act, etc
I used to know alot of people who were big into rap and how "down" they supposibly were but just end up being posers who reinvented themselves every new school year. You can't go from being a "gangsta" to a "skater" to a "prep" in that sequence over your 4 years of high school... please. Then have the audacity to look down on someone who still enjoys the muzicc as immature.
I guess when I first got into rap it was more because of beats, I started listening to hella old breakdance comp. tapes when I was like 11 or 12, but once the rap scene blew up in the 90's I got into it as well. My music tastes have changed alot, just in the point that maybe I prefer to bump someone like Ras Kass over Spice 1 now cuz I've grown to love good lyricists over the years (eh, I'm not knocking Spice 1, 187 He Wrote was the first bay CD I swooped up when I was a young pup and his first three albums are still 3 of my all time favorites) but to completely switch and start listening to alternative just cuz it's the "in" thing or what your so called click is jocking is lame. There's nothing wrong with enjoying different genres of music at all, if that was the case, I salute you for not being as close minded as maybe I am but for some of these folks to talk down on it as being something they "grew" out of like it was a just a fucking teenage phase makes me mad and only tells me you never really appreciated real rap music and all and aren't hearing what any "good" artist might have to say in his music.
sorry, just had some time here at work.. and some steam to blow off.
In addition to the above some jerk at the Rasputins' Pleasant Hill store who was taking my used CDs said some smart ass comment, "What'd, you stop listening to rap? You will. You'll grow out of it... listen to something with little less anger."
Ha, there's a couple of punks who work at that store.. hard to imagine how having what looks like a pretty cool job means you should be an asshole too.
