A 20-year-old Vallejo man was shot and killed outside a bar early Saturday morning -- the city's third homicide in about a week.

The slaying of Eric Lynn Stewart Jr. in front of the My Office bar at 2414 Sacramento St. also marks the third homicide of the year. A second man was also wounded in the shooting.

Vallejo police were summoned to the bar at about 1:30 a.m. to reports of several shots fired, Lt. Ken Weaver said in a press release.

"It's a popular spot on Friday nights, and there are usually large crowds, and they were outside of the bar at closing time," Weaver said in a phone interview Saturday.

Arriving officers saw about 100 people scattering from the bar and discovered broken car windows and numerous shell casings and blood on the ground, Weaver said. At least three cars were hit, and more than 30 casings were found, Weaver said.

Minutes later, dispatchers received a call about a large group of people -- some armed with guns -- fighting in the lobby of Kaiser Permanente Vallejo Medical Center, police said. The caller also said shots were being fired and someone had been struck, Weaver said.

However, when Vallejo officers and deputies from the Solano County Sheriff's Office arrived at Kaiser and took control of the scene, it was determined about an hour later that no shots had been fired at the hospital, Weaver said.

It was at Kaiser, though, that officers discovered Stewart, who had been shot outside My Office and died as a result of his injuries, Weaver said.

Another 20-year-old Vallejo male was also found at the hospital with a bullet wound to his abdomen, Weaver said.

He is in stable condition, said Weaver, who declined to release his name.

"He was alert and talking to us. We don't consider him a suspect to us at this point and time," Weaver said, adding that neither victim had a weapon on him at the hospital.

Weaver said the incident likely involved multiple shooters, though evidence is still being reviewed and no suspects have been identified.
