So I downloaded this album a few nights back and all I have to say is it should prob go somewhere in my top 20 of 2007. This album is fucking amazing. If you are a fan of Jesu or shoegaze music (or both combined) this is the stuff for you. This is just about the only album I've listened to in the past five days.

It's a black metal lead singer from France (Neige from Peste Noire) take on post-rock and shoegaze and throw in a little black metal influence here and there.

Here is some info. on the artist and here is Alcest's myspace if you want to check out two tracks before downloading.

Also here is his two song EP called Le Secret. It's quite a bit different from the full length because it came out three years ago and he changed up his sound quite abit since. It's still worth checking out though.

Good shit.

Yeah just like most shoegaze, Jesu's stuff and music of the like it's not something that's going to blow you away off of just one listen. But once you get into to it you are hooked. I was just listening to it on my bus ride home, it bumped of Jesu as my bus music which is saying something hahaha.

i bought this album the week it came out, since I pretty much buy all Profound Lore releases. I don't play it as much as I thought I would these days, given how amazing I found it at first but still top 10 material for sure IMO
The album they released before this is good but this one is alot better
anyways, this guy has several projects on the go and I suggest people take a listen to Amesoeurs in particular

I'm not too big on black metal but you said The Cure so I'll have to check it out.

Can you make any recommendations on bands similar to Jesu and Alcest? I had been looking for bands similar to Jesu and that's how I stumbled upon this. It's about the only band (guy, whatever) I found that sounded anything remotely like the same type of music as Jesu.

Both are pretty unique bands so it's hard to think of many. The Angellic Process and Nadja share alot of similarities with Jesu and I would recomend them. I would also check out Swans while you're at it, if you haven't already
