Adding Warmth to the Mix!

Anybody have any advice on adding warmth to a mix? I have these songs sounding pretty lovely, but they're just a little thin. Any help is appreciated.

There's a lot of VST plugins that can add warmth or basically tape saturation.

To name a few.

I'd also say, boosting mid freqs will add more warmth sounding.

Yea. EQ is my worst nightmare, just because it takes the most time for me and I'm fuckin' impatient, and a perfectionist...lol. I have some new BX8a's coming in at the end of the week though, so my job may get a little easier.

If you're going to use plugins use the mcdsp stuff, pultec eq, psp stuff, and one of the urs compressors.

If you're going to use hardware using a distressor might give you the color you need as well as using a summing box. Last resort, and most expensive, would be mixing to tape.

ok well i guess i didnt elaborate on the subject - warmth as far as VOCLAS:

i always compress each vocal track about 5/1 ratio sometimes more sometimes less

then i eq each vocal - it usually looks something like this

then i limit the whole mix - i never use the bombfactory limiter though i usually use the L2 or the LL16 (multiband limiter) - this song sounded coo with the bombfactory

then i use some de essing after i eq the mix

not saying im the best at engineering just trying to help - also you can only get a mix so warm when you compare your mix to a mix from an album you must realize the song has been mastered and that adds a lot of warmth and depth to the whole song it will make your track sound twice as good and sound like actual music

I appreciate it, fam. Yea, I know mastering makes the shit sound a lot better. For now though, I just need to add a bit...not MUCH, but a little bit...mostly to the beats. Vocals are the vocals are tough because I work with a lot of different voices, but I've got it down pretty good. I've got Young D (who sounds young as fuck, hence the name), JC (who is an R&B singer with high and low ranges), then there's ME...fuckin Barry Whiteboy! lol.
