The San Francisco 49ers announced Friday that they have signed QB Shaun Hill, claimed LB Andre Torrey off of waivers, and waived S Arnold Parker.
Hill (6-3, 235) was originally signed by the Vikings as a rookie free agent out of Maryland in 2002. He served as Minnesota’s third quarterback over the last four games in 2005. Hill was allocated to NFL Europe in the spring of 2003 with the Amsterdam Admirals.
Torrey (6-4, 245), a first-year linebacker from Arizona, originally signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent (4-29-05). He was released and later signed with the Houston Texans where he spent time on the practice squad. The Texans assigned him to NFL Europe and Torrey was chosen in the second round of the NFL Allocated Player Draft by the Berlin Thunder. He amassed 55 tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles with the Thunder. He was waived by the Texans (5-30-06).
Parker (6-2, 215) spent the 2005 training camp with San Francisco. He was allocated to NFL Europe in 2006 and was selected by the Rhein Fire. The Utah product was originally signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2004.
The 49ers also hired Bob Sargent as Senior Manager of Broadcasting. Sargent will manage the team’s broadcast partnerships, in-house radio broadcasts, the 49ers new Hispanic Radio Network and 49ers television programming. In addition, he will support the team’s efforts in selling media assets. Sargent joins the 49ers from KNBR Radio where he served as Sports Sales and Marketing Manager for the past 15 years. While at KNBR, Sargent was also responsible for creating sports sales strategies for all of KNBR’s properties.
