i've lived in san diego my whole life. a child of the early 80s. as far as this rap shit, i always looked up to Jayo Felony. dude was on some real shit but had the lyrical potential to crush rappers in battles too. as im sitting here looking @ my TAKE A RIDE cd, im wondering WHAT THE FUCK HAS HAPPENED? Now, im not speaking on every San Diego rap artist. theres only a few i really like. I still bump people like Ecay, Mitchy, Bayloc, & Black Mikey's older shit. Ive recently been checking the shit of Cricet & Young Sau. but, as im sitting back looking at this Bullet Loco record, i dont really get how shit flipped. maybe its because i havent heard more street dudes. maybe its because everyone wants to hop on the MAC DRE bandwagon. i personally dont know.
a couple days before NEW YEARS EVE, i went to a function held by junk. a real dope dude. i respect dude to the fullest. but i noticed that STUNNER SHADES, 6XL TALL shirts & THIZZ FACES were in the spot. dudes holding up T's while posing for pictures & shit. i figured these dudes came from No. Cali & were just in town. but when some G shit was played, people were on the mic giving shot outs to they boys or whatever the fuck they were doing. you could really hear cuz it was 3-4 mother fuckers to 1 mic just having a fucking ball. now im not looking down on dudes having a good time, fuck it - more power to em, BUT - i noticed that the dance floor was only cracking when some BAY shit was playing. look at it from my point of view: we are IN san diego. we are here to listen to san diego artists. yet the party only gets cracking to some music that was made to reflect the life styles of people hundreds of miles away. Ok, im still lost a little bit. i'll admit, some of the 808's were slapping, but i just couldnt relate to the music.
but f-it. its NYE. & we're here to mingle with folks. so i go walking around talking to all these bay dudes & chicks & find out they are ALLLLLL from san diego. all i can do is stand back & look at some fradulent ass mother fuckers who think this is what I represent. this aint the music that i was listening to growing up & ive NEVER heard of any of this shit till e-40 switched up his style. this is the same reason that BLOODS from NY get looked at sideways. shit dont make sense. im not saying DONT HAVE YOUR 1 PARTY/SINGLE TRACK & im not saying DONT BITE THE BAY CUZ THAT HYPHY SHIT SUCKS. that shit is cool for what they do. all im saying is: THATS THEY SHIT. NOT YOURS.
