American CEO’s make about 20 times as much as European CEO’s. My company is privately held so it is impossible to know how much the fat cats are making. I can guarantee that they haven’t taken a 9% decrease in salary and/or bonuses while these costs have gone up.

I got the following e-mail today:

“Health care costs continue to rise. We are continually reviewing our plan for ways to decrease our costs while providing you with the same level of benefits. Last year, we introduced new networks which have produced significant savings. This year, we started the Health Risk Appraisal program as a wellness initiative.

Our strategy is to pay roughly 80% of the plan cost and have the associate pay 20%.
We will be raising the associate cost by 9% in 2007.

Too bad none of the politicians have the balls to propose a nationalized healthcare system even in the most basic sense.

Schwarzenegger Wants to Implement Universal Health Care::
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger says one of the goals of his second term is to get all Californians health insurance, without raising taxes. But some consumer advocates are skeptical. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has the story.

Earlier this year Governor Schwarzenegger vetoed a measure that would have created a state-run universal health care system. He says it would have been too unwieldy. Still, he insists he wants to insure everyone. And the governor says the first step is to make health care more affordable.

Jerry Flanagan is with the Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights. He says the governor needs a reality check.

Flanagan: When Schwarzenegger says I’m going to make health care affordable for everyone, and we’re gonna insure everyone, but we’re not going to raise taxes, that’s a recipe for disaster.

The governor hasn’t released any specifics of his health care reform package. His aides say all of the details will be worked out in collaboration with the legislature. Kenny Goldberg, KPBS News.
