Eddie Chambers: I’ll give Haye a chance to prove himself against me

By William Mackay: David Haye (25-2, 23 KO’s) won’t have to look hard for guys that want to take him on and let Haye try and prove himself starting with former heavyweight title challenger Eddie Chambers (36-2, 18 Ko’s), who took exception to Haye calling Wladimir Klitschko’s previous knockout victims as bums. Chambers was stopped in the 12th round by Wladimir last year. However, Chambers looked about the same as Haye did in his fight with Wladimir, but showed more skills than Haye.

Chambers said this about Haye in an article at thisislondon.co.uk: “I will give him [Haye] the chance to see just how much of a bum I am. I tried to warn Haye that it is hard to get away from Klitschko’s jab and that it is hard to overcome his strength. Everybody gets in the ring with Klitschko and thinks that they will be too fast and that Klitschko will be too slow. I made the mistake and now Haye has made the same mistake as me and paid the same painful prove. I will fight him if he wants to continue with boxing.”

This would be the perfect fight for Haye to get at least one good win under his belt and then try to make a case for a fight against one of the Klitschko brothers. Chambers isn’t a super heavyweight like the Klitschko, but he’s good enough to give Haye a lot of problems if Haye tries to beat him by pot shotting all night. You don’t beat Chambers by throwing pot shots. He’ll outpoint Haye if he fights like he usually does.

Chambers, 6’1”, 208 lbs, is roughly the same size as Haye and it would be a good starting point for Haye to crawl out of the hole that he’s dug for himself by his horrible fight against Wladimir this past weekend. Wladimir doesn’t think Haye has it in him to beat the bigger heavyweights in the division, but thinks Haye can be successful against smaller guys.

Chambers would be one of the smaller fighters, but if Haye can’t beat him then he really needs to retire or move back down to cruiserweight because there’s just too many large heavyweights that would give Haye a lot of problems like Deontay Wilder, Alexander Dimitrenko, Samuel Peter, and Robert Helenius.

Vitali: If Haye can pick up a couple of important wins we could fight

By William Mackay: If the recently humiliated former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-2, 23 KO’s) wants another heavyweight title shot he’s going to have to pick up a couple of important wins before he’ll be given at shot at WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko. The big Ukrainian won’t face Haye right now after Haye’s poor performance against his brother IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

In an article by Steve Bunch at thisislondon.co.uk, Vitali said “If he can get the fight wins and the fight makes sense then it could happen.” That’s probably not the words that Haye was hoping to hear, as he doesn’t have any interest in facing contenders, and he’d probably hate the idea of having to face guys that would be good enough for Haye to partially redeem himself for his Wladimir fight. Haye doesn’t want to have to work his way back to a title shot; he wants a straight rematch with Wladimir without doing the dangerous of beating one or two top contenders.

Wladimir has no interest in fighting Haye again, because there is nothing to prove in fighting him once more. It would be like going over old ground and there wouldn’t be nearly as much interest in a Haye-Wladimir fight unless Haye were to beat someone like Chris Arreola, Robert Helenius, or Odlanier Solis. Haye might need wins over all three of those guys to get a rematch with Wladimir and to get Vitali to show some interest.

Wladimir said “You are not a real heavyweight and you will never beat real heavyweights but there are men that you can fight, men from the lower level.” Wladimir doesn’t exactly have much faith in Haye, does he? You can’t blame him because Wladimir was able to dominate Haye while fighting with his offense in reserve for most of the fight. Wladimir only turned it on for brief periods in every, usually after he would get hit by Haye. Wladimir never really used his left hook despite his trainer Emanuel Steward pleading with him to use it.

Haye has got a lot of work ahead of him if he wants to fight Wladimir or Vitali, and it’s doubtful that Haye is up to it. With his big payday that he got for the Wladimir fight, Haye will likely get lazy and retire. He’s not someone that appears to love boxing like the Klitschkos and he showed that he doesn’t like to mix it up with the timid way he fought Wladimir.

Roach: Pacquiao wants the Mayweather fight badly

By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach says his fighter Manny Pacquiao badly wants the bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and that Roach is hoping that Mayweather was serious recently when he said that Pacquiao will be next after his September fight against WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz.

Speaking with ESPN, Roach said “We want that fight badly. We agreed to everything he asked for the last time and nothing happened. Is it just talk or is it action?”

Pacquiao didn’t agree to the random blood tests with the 14 day cut off that Mayweather asked for last year before Pacquiao’s fight with Joshua Clottey, so it’s hard to tell what Roach is talking about when he says that they agreed to everything that Mayweather asked for. He might as well forget about a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight if Pacquiao doesn’t agree to the random blood tests for the fight because that’s a given. Mayweather won’t accept no blood testing for the last 3 1/2 weeks before the fight. If Pacquiao wants the fight, he’s likely going to have to accept the full random blood testing this time without a 14 day cut off.

Roach thinks that Mayweather could have problems beating southpaw Victor Ortiz in September, saying that Mayweather has problems with southpaw opponents. However, one would have to ask is why didn’t Pacquiao face Ortiz if Roach is so high on him? Pacquiao recently beat a shot 39-year-old Shane Mosley, who Ortiz would likely thrash if given the chance. Before that, Pacquiao beat what a lot of boxing fans think was a shot Antonio Margarito. Why did Pacquiao face Margarito rather than a young lion like Ortiz? Mayweather is showing a lot of courage by stepping up to the plate and facing one of the best young fighters in boxing with Ortiz, while Pacquiao is beating up on Mosley, Margarito and is about to take on 38-year-old lightweight Juan Manuel Marquez two divisions above Marquez’s weight class at welterweight.

Glad to see Donaire's situation sorted out. Hopefully he gets in the ring ASAP.

Donaire Back to Top Rank

In a week or two and after a little more fine-tuning, a new agreement between world bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire, Jr. and his promoter, Top Rank, is expected to be signed ending months of inactivity for the talented Fil-American boxer.

The new agreement, which according to those in the know would be a totally new promotional contract covering another three years, would effectively lead the 28-year-old Philippine-born American fighter out of a limbo resulting from an ill-advised move to sign up with Golden Boy Promotions while his contract with rival Top Rank Promotions was still effective.

37...

Hopkins is 46. Calzaghe was 37 when he beat Hopkins/Roy Jones and was pound for pound #2. Sergio Martinez the best fighter in the world after Pacquiao is 36.

Age is a number that's really determined on how much "millage" you have, i.e how many beatings you've taken. Marquez doesn't take beatings. He should give pac another good fight but I agree pac beats him of course.

Anyways this is the fight the people wanted. All the polls I've seen asking "who should pac fight next", including the siccness, marquez always wins. So we can't complain if everyone wants the fight. It was either Marquez or someone like Timothy Bradley.

Schaefer: David Haye needs to fight Arreola and Adamek in the U.S and then Vitali

By William Mackay: Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, believes that former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-2, 23 KO’s) needs to come to the United States and remake his career there rather than staying in the UK. Schaefer, who was disappointed by Haye’s losing performance against IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko last weekend, would like for Haye to come to American and fight a couple of fights against Tomasz Adamek and Chris Arreola before taking on one of the Klitschko brothers again.

Schaefer thinks that Haye made a mistake in taking on Wladimir rather than Vitali Klitschko., Schaefer saw Wladimir as the more athletic, more mobile of the two Klitschko brothers and told Haye before the Wladimir fight that he should take on Vitali and not Wladimir. However, Haye and his trainer/manager Adam Booth instead went with Wladimir, perhaps thinking he was going to be more vulnerable because of his reputation for having a weaker chin than his brother Vitali. But as it turned out, Haye might have been better off having fought the slower, more stationary Vitali as Schaefer originally suggested.

Schaefer said this to Sky Sports News: “I was surprised at how negative he [Haye] was, but maybe it was the people around him who were negative as well and that filtered down to the fighter. I’ve read he wants to retire, but if I was him I’d go for a couple of fights in the U.S against guys like Chris Arreola or Tomasz Adamek. He should get a couple of wins and then give it another go.”

“David’s strength is his athleticism, movement and speed. That would be magnified against Vitali, because Vitali is so mechanical.”

I don’t see Haye doing well against Vitali. It would be like matching a Vitali up against a lighter, more fragile-chinned version of Odlanier Solis and Vitali would make quick work of Haye. It might take a while for Vitali to catch up to Haye if he fought scared like he did against Wladimir, but sooner or later Vitali would get near enough to land something big.

Haye could make a career out of fighting the smaller heavyweights in the U.S. and on the world level. As long as you match Haye selectively, he’ll do okay. Haye looked superb when he was being matched against 38-year-old heavyweights for the past three years, but when they put him in with Wladimir it was ridiculous how much better Wladimir was compared to Haye

Schaefer: Khan will fight Mayweather next year

By William Mackay: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says he’s spoken to unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. and he’s open to facing WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan next year after Mayweather fights Manny Pacquiao. Khan will, of course, have to beat IBF light welterweight champion Zab Judah in his fight this month on July 23d for a Mayweather fight to happen.

There’s also talk that Khan will facing aging former three time world champion Erik Morales next after the Judah fight and then Kell Brook at welterweight before facing Mayweather. The Morales fight would a bout where Khan could get some attention in the United States by knocking off an old lion without the risk of getting knocked out if Khan were to face someone with power like Breidis Prescott, Lucas Matthysse or Marcos Maidana.

There’s no telling what would happen if Khan gets matched against Brook, because he can fight a little, although he’s not very quick of hand. I would frankly be surprised if Khan’s promotional company actually make this fight. I can see Khan being matched up against an old guy like Morales, because they had been trying to make the fight recently but Morales wasn’t interested. But to put Khan in with a good fighter like Brook, I have my doubts that will happen with a big cash out fight against Mayweather on the horizon. Khan would very, very little chance against a quality fighter like Mayweather. It would be a mismatch from the word go. Khan barely beat Maidana recently and looked awful in defeating Ireland’s Paul McCloskey in his last fight.

Schaefer had this to say at thesun.co.uk: “Ive had conversations with Mayweather and his adviser Al Haymon and they are definitely open to fight with Khan. Mayweather has indicated that he’d like to do the Pacquiao fight [next after the Ortiz bout] if the blood testing issue can be sorted out. Khan would then fight in autumn 2012 against Mayweather.”

Khan might be lucky just to get by Judah, because he has problems taking hard shots and Judan can punch. Khan had all he could handle against Maidana, and if Judah is able to get in close to Khan and fire him up on the inside, it’s doubtful that Khan would make it out of the fight. As long as the referee doesn’t step in to pull Judah off of Khan while he’s blasting away at him, I can see Judah winning this fight and destroying any chance of Mayweather facing Khan next year. That doesn’t mean that Golden Boy Promotions still won’t go ahead and match Khan and Mayweather up against each other, but it will take a lot of the interest out of the fight that’s for sure. It would make it difficult to sell in the United States, and it might have to take place in England under those conditions.

Khan isn’t anywhere near the same level as Mayweather and it would be a tremendous mismatch if Khan does get put in with Mayweather. It would be one of Mayweather’s easier fights because Khan will likely fold early once Mayweather starts landing his precision punches.

Eddie Chambers Expresses Interest In Facing Haye

By James Slater: There appears to be no chance at all of David Haye getting a rematch with Wladimir Klitschko (who is now reportedly looking at facing the winner of the July 23rd Chisora-Fury clash), but Vitali Klitschko has said that if Haye can “get the right wins and the fight makes sense then it could happen.”

The WBC king (who faces Tomasz Adamek in September) has expressed an interest in KO’ing “The Hayemaker,” but the older brother from Ukraine wants Haye to earn a title shot this time around. Haye of course, was planning on retiring on October 13th this year, but he is already backtracking on his “promise.” Not wanting to go out a loser, the 30-year-old ex-WBA champ is hoping to redeem himself with a rematch win over Wladimir or a win over Vitali. The Wladimir return is “out of the question,” according to Bernd Boente, and Haye will have to pick up at least one win over a ranked contender to land a shot at “Dr. Iron Fist.” And one suitably ranked American heavyweight has said he will face Haye if he elects to carry on fighting - “Fast” Eddie Chambers.

Speaking to Steve Bunce for The London Evening Standard, Philadelphia’s Chambers, 36-2(18) fired back at Haye, who had called the 29-year-old “a bum” after Chambers had lost his own shot at Wladimir.

“I know Haye called me a bum when I lost to Kitschko - I will give him the chance to see just how much of a bum I am,” Chambers said. “I tried to warn Haye that it is hard to get away from Klitschko’s jab and that it is hard to overcome his strength. Everybody gets in the ring with Klitschko and thinks they will be too fast. I made the mistake and now Haye has made the same mistake as me and paid the price - I will fight him if he wants to continue boxing.”

Haye may or may not be interested in getting back in line and actually earning a shot at Vitali, and he may or may not be interested in facing the slick, fast-handed Chambers. But if the fight did happen it would be a most intriguing fight as well as an acceptable final eliminator for a shot at Vitali (although Chambers is in position to face Tony Thompson in a final elim for the IBF belt currently held by Wladimir).

His critics said loudly how Haye talked his way into this past Saturday’s mega-money fight with Wladimir, and these same critics feel he should earn a second fight with one of the brothers. Vitali is of this opinion too, and Chambers seems the perfect opponent for Haye to take next - if he’s willing to earn his shot that is.

Another fighter calling Haye out is Chisora, who, according to his promoter Frank Warren, wants both Haye and Wladimir.

“I would let Dereck fight Haye,” Warren said. “Dereck was [also] ready to fight Wladimir when it was cancelled last year. Dereck has no fear of Wladimir and he certainly has no fear of Haye.”

Chisora has Tyson Fury to worry about, but if he wins that one and doesn’t get a date with Wladimir, he may continue calling Haye out. It seems everyone wants a piece of Haye right now. But does Haye want a piece of anyone not named Klitschko?

^^Marquez is pound for pound #4 in all of boxing so you can't use the old excuse for him.

Mosley proved to be shit, so pac should have went straight to marquez after margarito instead of wasting time with mosley.
But when Mayweather after a year off played around with Marquez he was P4P #2, and Mayweather got no credit for his win. Why in the hell should we care about Manny fighting a 38 year old Marquez. Marquez has been in a lot of war recently the Daiz vs Marquez 1 was a war, and his last fight was a war. Marquez has clearly lost a step. Manny get no credit for this fight.

This is why I don't like wasting time with you, as you bring up the EXACT same conversations we've already had. "Quote me where I criticized floyd. The only thing I criticized was Floyd's failure to make weight against Marquez, in which as a result he paid him $600,000." Sound familiar? Right, I just said that to you days ago

Marquez-Katsidis was not a war it was pretty one-sided besides the flash knock down and JMM knocked him out, something guys like Robert Guerrero couldn't do.

You just prove that you're a Manny dickrider. So Mayweather being 2 pounds over 144lb matters? Does $600,000 change the fact that Mayweather won every round against Marquez? You keep on telling everyone that brings up the fact that Marquez is 38 yrs old, by repeating that Marquez is P4P #4. You're a dickrider and you're repeating yourself trying to justify another Manny bullshit fight against an old man.

Juan Daiz vs Manny wasn't a war or the Casamayor fight wasn't a war? You are a Manny dickrider and everybody knows it.
