Jermain Taylor coming back at 160 is a bit interesting. Now he could be done, totally shot, punch resistance forever gone, but sometimes taking a couple years off from the sport after bad KO's is the best possible thing. Take Eric Morales for example. He was in some brutal wars, KO'd twice by Pac, retired for a couple years, came back & people thought he was going to DIE against Maidana and he damn near won with one eye. He took everything Maidana threw at him with no problems.

160 is void of talent at the moment. You have Sergio Martinez, a bunch of a guys that really aren't that good, and then some rising prospects. If he can make the weight without any problems, that's perfect for him.

Devon Alexander to move up to the welterweight division

By Dan Ambrose: After having looked poor in his last three fights, former IBF/WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (22-1, 13 KO’s) will be moving up to the welterweight division because of his problems making the light welterweight division limit of 140 lbs. Alexander, 24, will immediately target former IBF light welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi in his first fight at welterweight.

However, Malignaggi is currently injured and it’s unclear if he’ll want any part of fighting Alexander, especially after seeing him win another controversial decision while fighting at home at home in Saint Charles, Missouri. Malignaggi might not want to be on the losing end of a controversial decision after losing a controversial decision to Juan Diaz in the past.

In an article at ESPN, Alexander’s manager Kevin Cunningham said “That’s out last fight at 140. He’s killing himself so bad to make the weight. After six rounds, his legs aren’t there because he killed himself so bad to make 140. He’s been making 140 since he was 15, and an amateur. How he’s a 24-year-old man.”

Alexander looked tired and weak in all three of his last few rights, and there’s a good argument you can make that without the fights taking place in his home city he might have lost all three of them. However, Alexander’s not a huge puncher and is thin-boned with a small frame. It’s difficult to see him competing with the likes of Victor Ortiz, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. Alexander would be a lot like Britain’s Kell Brook, only a little faster. Alexander is good enough become a paper champion but that’s about all I can see him doing. For the time being, Alexander might have to look for someone other than Malignaggi in case he’s not so keen on fighting Alexander in Saint Louis and risking losing a controversial decision of his own. Malignaggi is trying to rebuild his career. The last thing he needs is to get beaten by a controversial decision in Alexander’s home town.

Mayweather: I want to fight Pacquiao, but I can’t overlook Ortiz

By Chris Williams: Unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. assured boxing fans that he does still want to fight Manny Pacquiao in the future. However, Mayweather Jr. has an obstacle in front of him in the form of WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz, who Mayweather Jr. faces on September 17th.

At the press conference today with Ortiz, Mayweather said “Floyd doesn’t duck or doge no one. For my fans and for the Manny Pacquiao fans, do I want the fight? Absolutely. If the fans want it, I want to give it to them. But one step at a time. I can’t overlook Ortiz.”

Mayweather Jr. is right. Pacquiao fans are just going to have to put a sock in it for a while until Mayweather gets his important fight with Ortiz out of the way first. This is a crucial fight for Mayweather Jr. because he’s not fighting an old guy or someone weakened by a catch weight. Mayweather is facing one of the best fighters in boxing and perhaps the number #3 fighter in the welterweight division. Once he gets Ortiz out of the way, then they can start talking Mayweather-Pacquiao, as long as Pacquiao wins his next fight against Juan Manuel Marquez in November, and as long as Pacquiao is willing to agree to the Olympic style random blood testing for performance enhancing drugs that Mayweather will no doubt be asking for before he agrees to fight Pacquiao. I don’t don’t think Mayweather is going to agree to any three week drug testing breaks before the fight or even two weeks for a fight with Pacquiao. We may only be seeing a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight if Pacquiao agrees to the full random blood testing that Mayweather is asking his opponents to do before he fights them.

I guess Mayweather got his fire back for boxing. He's way too smart to over look Ortiz. All that's left is for both Mayweather and Manny to win there fights, Manny needs to agree to random testing, and the fight is on. Mayweather is calling Manny out.. The ball is in Manny's court now, will he still whine and cry about random testing? We will hopefully get to see Mayweather vs Manny in 2012..

Mayweather unable to escape shadow of Pacquiao

By John F. McKenna (McJack): Try as he may, Floyd Mayweather (41-0, 25 KO’s) cannot escape the ever growing shadow of Manny Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KO’s). The two have not been able to come to terms for the past couple of years for the richest fight in boxing.

The animosity between the two got to the point that Manny Pacquiao filed a defamation law suit against Floyd Mayweather over allegations that “Pacman” has achieved his success as a fighter by using performance enhanced drugs, or PEDS.

It is not surprising then that under these circumstances Mayweather spent a lot of time answering questions about Manny Pacquiao at the news conference to hype his fight with welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-2-2, 22 KO’s). The reporters just would not leave it alone. Mayweather and Ortiz will square off on September 17 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, but the fight boxing fans really want to see is not happening now and may never happen.

Before he spoke at a packed house in Hudson Theater in Manhattan, Floyd “Money” Mayweather heard shouts from fans in the audience, “We want Pacquiao!”

Mayweather was quoted in USA Today as saying : “I never said Pacquiao was cheating. I just said ‘Me and everybody I fight must take the test. If you beat me I want you to earn it. I don’t want anything to be tainted. I don’t want to say ‘He beat because of this or that.’ Just take the test.”

Mayweather has been criticized by some who feel he is ducking Pacquiao and is using the drug testing issue as a phony excuse not to fight him. Pacquiao has been fighting at an extraordinary level for a number of years. His high energy, speed and the pace at which he fights has allowed him to steamroll over his opposition. The only two fighters who fight at the same lever of excellence are Mayweather and Pacquiao.

Floyd noted that his career is winding down and at the age of 34 he may not have too many more fights, but he added that he would like at some point to fight Pacquiao.

When he steps into the ring in September against Ortiz, it will have been 16 months since Floyd’s last fight when he defeated Mosley in May 2010.

Mayweather presently is beset by numerous legal woes in addition to the defamation lawsuit brought against him by Pacquiao. One of those charges involves the mother of his children. Another is a lawsuit brought against him by a nightclub bouncer who alleges that he was attacked and injured by Floyd’s bodyguards after receiving a signal to do so

Mayweather would not discuss his legal problems except to say “Young, black and rich you go through things. But I am a strong individual, and I can survive anything.”

this guy is a fan boy for real

Chavez Jr vs. Peter Manfredo Jr on November 19th

By Mike Gamm: Today Julio Cesar Chavez Jr finalized his first world title defence against former IBO Middleweight champion Peter Manfredo Jr for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Middleweight title. The fight is scheduled in Mexico at the Estadio Nemesio Diez, Toluca on November 19th.

As you can see Chavez is going for the weaker opposition in the middle division yet still choosing a well recognisable name. Manfredo does draw pretty well on a world and local level having been on the Contender, and the city isn’t too far out of the way of many other big cities where Mexican fight fans in the area could come in and see the fight and Chavez has fought there before.

I think Arum will be looking for big pay per view (PPV) sales for this fight. Besides that in my opinion Manfredo isn’t really a big contender any more, he has aged in his past couple of fights and that is what Freddie Roach is good and picking up on. Chavez will still have to step up his game for this fight he was lucky to win his last fight and to win this he would have to work on not leaving him self open to be hit and basic defence he also lacks. The only advantage he has on Manfredo is youth and work rate.

The reason why Chavez really isn’t been matched up with the top world level fighters such as Sergio Martinez, Miguel Cotto, Matthew Macklin, Saul Alvarez, and Paul Williams is because I suspect Roach and Bob Arum know he is simply not at that level yet and may never will be. Chavez has been gifted his title and is lucky to be champion because of obvious reasons. There are a lot more fighters that deserve a shot at the WBC middle weight title and Chavez Jr can’t told on to it forever without facing a young world class of fighter.

Chavez vs Peter Manfredo?? Fucking fight of the century right there!

In his defense though he says he's fighting Sergio Martinez next (March 2012) and the WBC said they are allowing him a voluntary fight before his mandatory fight against Martinez, so if he wants to make a little bit of money before he is slaughtered so be it. Can't hate on that.

Although he should have picked Canelo if he wanted to make some real money.

KimBo Slice makes pro boxing debut on 8/13; Collado Signs with Main Events; Star

Kimbo was always meant to be in the ring," said Jared Shaw, Team Kimbo Promotional Advisor. "He's one of the hardest punchers in the world and on August 13, his journey to becoming America's heavyweight begins. The first stop will be Oklahoma in what will become the Kimbo Slice Express."

Longtime friend and manager, Mike Imber, said that Slice has been training for his debut with his longtime boxing coach Randy Khatami and also spent some time in top-rated contender Alfredo Angulo's camp, working with trainer Clemente Medina.

"He's completely focused on his boxing career and excited to showcase his talents inside the squared circle," continued Shaw. "Kimbo Slice is hungry and when that man wants his bread, he's scary."

Kimbo couldn't even take a JAB by that gay guy lol.

He's a good street fighter though, just too old to make an impact in either pro sports. Maybe if he started earlier.

I still think he should go to Japan and become like a Bob Sapp type figure, I bet he would make a ton of money. Japanese people love huge black scary looking guys.
