Let Me In

I am conflicted about this movie. On one hand I feel like this is probably the best we can expect from an adapted foreign film for American audiences. On the other hand I feel they made changes that really weren’t needed and in doing so changed the nature of the movie entirely.

I feel like there was un-needed gore added in an attempt to make this more of a horror movie. I felt they undermined the film by focusing too much on the horror aspect instead of the friendship/romance between the main characters. I think the young male character suffered specifically from this. In the Sweedish film his life was explored much more thoroughly and developed to the point where we could understand why his relationship with the girl became so important.

I expected Chloë Moretz (the girl) to shine in this, but was let down. I think this is because she wasn’t really given any room to do much with the character. Instead I thought Kodi Smit-McPhee (the boy) exceeded my expectations and did a lot with the character despite it being chopped down in the Americanized version.

I have a hard time recommending this movie because I think it deviated so much from the original and became something entirely different. Something different that, to me, wasn’t appealing. But, if for some reason you can’t stand foreign subtitled movies I’d say check this out. But if you don’t mind the subtitles I would say watch the original.

This is the 2nd time we have ever fully agreed on anything movie wise.

The wifey and I watched Due Date and Law Abiding Citizen last night.

Due Date is fucking hilarious. It kind of reminded me a little of Dinner for Schmucks in the fact that the stranger that is met under weird circumstances, just keeps fucking everything up and you wonder, "what the fuck can he do that will be worse than THIS???"

Law Abiding Citizen is awesome. It shows that the judicial system is completely fucked. Gerard Butler's character is a total badass. SPOILER ALERT in next paragraph...

***SPOILER***
I thought it sucked that Butler's character died in the end. I don't know if I'm the only one, but i always root for the bad guy, even though he wasn't all that bad, despite killing lots of innocent people lol.

It was one of the few movies I actually enjoyed watching the bad guy die, the entire movie he was outsmarting everyone with well thought out plots and schemes, when someone finally beat him at his own game he even laughed at the irony of it all.

Great ending in my opinion, but I def agree that the bad guy should win more often in movies.
