If yall aint seen the movie Moon yet, someone just posted a link in the mediashare forum.

Coming from a person who has seen pretty much every scifi/horror/supernatural/trippy type movie ever made, I can honestly say this is one of the best crafted scifi flicks Ive ever seen. Sam Rockwell can act circles around your favorite actor. If he doesnt get an oscar nomination for his role in this, then the academy is straight up fucked.

yall need to check this out though. this movie makes district 9 look like starship troopers.
You make that sound like a bad thing? Starship Troopers is one of the best War Satires ever made.

this mexcom reminds me of one of those dudes who sits there when you're watching a James Bond car chased scene and every 2 seconds he's like "ohhhh yeah right"...."ohhh that could NEVER happen"....."ohhh as IF!".....

And that's the point. Sure they talk about him being up there to mine so that earth could have the resources needed to sustain a clean burning energy alternative. But they don't make it seem important to the character. Ok, so he's heading home in 2 weeks. I would personally be dying in anticipation. FINALLY! Human contact! Seeing my family, my daughter, my wife! But they barely touch on ANY of these human emotions that would have made the over all thematic roots that much stronger. Instead we're left with a "meh."

This MeXcOm_420 is just smarter than the AvErAgE poster. Besides, if a movie is trying to depict realism then that's the standard that I'm going to hold it to. Movies is serious business.

So this helium-3 is harvested by one person? Did they mention what it was in the movie? They really could have done a better job at creating interest in what he was doing up there. Which they didn't.
Yes they did. The beginning of the movie had a monologue (a commercial of sorts) where the speaker addresses what is going on [on the moon]. I suggest you watch it again. It is as follows:

"...where are we now? How do we make the world so much better? Make deserts bloom? Right now we are the largest producer of fusion energy in the world. The energy of the sun trapped in rock harvested by machine from the far side of the moon. Today we deliver enough clean-burning helium-3 to supply the energy needs of nearly 70% of the planet. Who would have thought, all the energy we ever needed, right above our heads. The power of the moon. The power of our future (Lunar Industries Ltd)."

There was only one person on the moon but he was not physically "mining" or "harvesting" the helium-3 by himself. There were a number of scenes where it showed a giant machine kicking up rocks. This machine was doing all the harvesting.

I was under the impression that he was excited to be going home, until such time that he was presented with his clone. That seemed to take precedent over how he felt about returning.

As for the manner in which the two clones acted towards one another after seeing each other for the first time.. I too was confused at how calm they were. And I know this doesn't entirely justify the way they acted, but just keep in mind that the new clone was just brought to life and told by Gerty that he was suffering brain damage and the previous clone was in a serious accident and close to death. So neither of them were in their right state of mind.

And remember, this is a science-fiction movie.

Just saw this today, it was ok I guess. Doesn't really draw you in, and it's kind of confusing when they 1st bring in the clone but I was able to figure out what was happening with everything about an hour into it. I thought it was pretty obvious that when the clone called home and eve calls out to her dad that he responds with Sam Rockwell's voice. Overall it was a good performance by Rockwell but the movie doesn't really warrant multiple views. 3 out of 5

Just watched this again and it's such a great movie. Especially on repeated watches. If you watch both Sams separate you can really tell one knows it's a clone and what might be going on while the "fresher" one thinks he is going insane when seeing the other Sam until the video.

Also at the end you can hear them talking about the Sam from the Moon like he is crazy or an conspiracy theorist or something. I have to say this is one of the few times I'd really like a prequel and/or a sequel.

Finally got around to watching this and like most everyone else I thought Sam Rockwell was great in it. Can't wait to see Mute.

http://sffmedia.com/films/science-f...el-mute-witness-a-homage-to-blade-runner.html

Duncan Jones is the director responsible for one of the standout films of 2009, a well crafted science fiction thriller called Moon. If you're a fan (which I definitely am), you'll be glad to hear that he plans to return to the same universe with a new film called Mute Witness. Jones told SFX magazine that Mute Witness bears some notable similarities:

"It takes place in the same timeline as Moon," Jones said. "In fact, Sam Rockwell's character makes a cameo appearance in the plot. I have asked Sam to reprise the part, and he seems happy about that."

"Like Moon it is a very human story - and one of the big reasons I like SF is because it allows you to do that while offering audiences the chance of escapism," he said.

In Moon, Rockwell plays Sam Bell, caretaker of the Sarang moon base owned by the Lunar Corporation, who investigates some strange occurrences on his watch. Moon explores genetic manipulation, corporate ethics, cloning, and the psychological effects of isolation, with plenty of twists and turns along the way. It also features the voice of Kevin Spacey as Gerty, Sam's robot helper.

He calls the sequel, Mute Witness, his "love letter to Blade Runner" and said that "just like the Ridley Scott movie, Mute is also a thriller, which takes place in the future - although my film is set in Berlin".

He intends to set his sights high, just as he did with Moon, aiming for an intelligent audience, and is determined to avoid the usual dumbing down that occurs with big budget science fiction films.

"When studios make science fiction they invest a lot of money into it," he said. "They also have to make sure that the audience for their films are as big as possible and the way to do that, usually, is to dumb everything down. So the sorts of things that sci-fi fans love are not being made anymore. For example, it's difficult to imagine Blade Runner coming out now. But one of the interesting things that is currently happening is that a lot of special effects are getting cheaper - and as that happens I think you will see more independent films tapping into that and making more engaging and intelligent films. I think it is an interesting time for fantasy cinema and I hope that Mute will show that to people."

Jones revealed to the Suicide Girls website that Rockwell's appearance "will be an epilogue of what happens to Sam Bell when he returns to Earth".

Before his Moon sequel, Jones is working on a science fiction project called Source Code staring Jake Gyllenhall, about a soldier who wakes up in a commuter’s body and has to keep reliving a train bombing until he can work out who is responsible for it.

Both the Moon sequel Mute Witness and Source Code sound promising. The more we see of Duncan Jones' movies the better. If you haven't already watched Moon, be sure to catch it on DVD or blu-ray. It never really received the promotion and attention it deserved.
