this isn't what's missing but...too much over-saturation of the same concept "we get dough" "we fuck bitches" "we smoke purp and drink bo" step the content up at least sometimes lol im starting to get convinced if the Bay Area's standards weren't so low a lot of these "dope" rappers would be jobless...but at the same time, the Bay is on some fly gangsta shit at all times, so that's the initial reason why all these songs are about the same shit...

Whats missing is a combination of a number of things. First of all, we really miss our Mobb Music. Thanks for Ounce of Game and other productions you did, they really made the "Bay Sound" in the mid-1990s. Instead today we just try to sound like the South.

Another thing missing is taste. There's a difference between being hungry and having an appetite. Too many rappers today are too hungry. They want their shit to hit the shelves fast, they want to copy another rappers successful concepts or style, they want to make a quick gingle about new vodka or jeans or technology to try to get on the radio. Very few rappers today like their steaks with fine wine. It takes a real artist to pick through the bullshit and gimmicks and create their own pallate.

And then there's the complete album. Instead of developing chemistry with producers or other artists or recording dozens of songs and picking the best 15 for the album we have albums being pressed up that are basically an artist recording 15 songs with jacked beats or fruity loops. Every Bay artist cites 2pac as an influence, but no one wants to do 100 tracks and pick the best one to make an All Eyes on Me.

Then there's credibility. People on this board speak on the credibility of many artists from the Bay making a name for themselves in other places but not staying "true" to their sound. Personally I think there is a difference between experimentation and outreach to other fans and completely selling out. A fan judges for themselves who has credibility.

Then theres the fact there is no radio station, or more importantly, live venue to do shows that supports Bay Area Hip Hop music. Touring is important for sales and the closest to San Francisco most good artists can get for a show is Petaluma.

And theres us, the fans. We don't do are part with sales. San Quinn, Jacka, and J Stalin's last albums should have made noise on a national level, and we failed the people in our region who are taking the time to cut through the bullshit posted above to make unique quality music.

**Delivery**
My whole life I been a "West" head and I grew up with Rapperz like 2pac,E40,MacMall,CellyCel,Spice1,Yukmouth,Brotha Lynch...fools that can RAP.
All these dudes where at the TOP of the list in the underground game.
Now it's Jacka,Clyde,Stalin,Quinn...
There is nothing speacial bout these new dudes lyrical abilities, they make good music but how much is that really saying when the producers make the beats right?
Plus everyones a bunch a caked up Cokehustlin Boss...jus livin the good life.
What happened? evryones pussified and lacks brains.
When I bump Mac Mall,Celly Cel,2pac I get the whole package.
The rappers got skills rappin, theyre mutitalented and use clever wits with delivery and content, they had good voices, they had GAME BEIN A G,and ya they tossed around pushin yay and mackin bitches but they was really about bein a Gangsta.
It seem like most a the rappers these day let the beats and money make them.
When fools back in the REAL days had BACKBONE and was sumthin you could feel.

The Bay is missing that old school mobb music. Them beats with simple bass lines, a few electric piano chords, and a single note string lead in the background. I got a whole archive full of that shit. Just waiting for the right time. GET AT ME!!!

Most of all we need MC's who are playing their own character, with distinctive personalities.

Also rappers who make you think. I don't mean "think" as in intellectual / positive / conscious shit necessarily (although we do need more of that). I mean telling stories that make you see things in a different way or inspire you to say: "how the fuck did he come up with that?"

Messy Marv is an example. He doesn't have to be a musical genius. He gets inside peoples heads with his different ideas and song concepts. He also switches it up to keep his name in peoples mouths whether for the good or the bad. Most rappers in the bay just leave you with a very neutral feeling.

Also, everything everyone else said.

A note on the mobb music: I grew up on that shit too. Mobb music was great when they used real TR-808's, Moogs, Guitar / Bass players, Sp-1200's, and when they were recording and mixing on analog equipment. But mobb music on Reason or a Triton usually sounds wack. The biggest draught in bay area rap history was from 1997-2002, after the golden era of mobb but before hyphy. We shouldn't go back to that watered down mobb shit. If we do make mobb music, it should be a compromise between the old and the new, like Keak's "In Fronta Yo Mommas House". That shit slapped!

all these 2 minute and 3 minute songs, back in the days songs were like 5 or 6 minutes sometimes even longer...lyrics is another big thing too, in the 90's rappers were tellin stories in they raps, now it all about "yeah i got a chev ridin on 26's...my chain shinin on yours nigga...money money money...."old school rap i barely heard them rap bout money..all of it was stories. production was dope in the 90's, they had badass samples from oldies and shit, g-funk was good as fuck, everything was simple back then...now u hear a buncha crazy ass noises in some songs..it gets annoying to listen to music from today..but im slowly starting to hear new rappers use samples for example on Shady Nates Gasman album he got two samples from that i know and they are good, sound like some late 90's tracks to early 2000.
basically i wuld like to see some shit from the 90's again as in production and quality...today its more about quantity...rappers be coming out with like 15 albums in a year and all them usually sound garbage...take some time and make ur shit right and you will definetly have a hit..bring back production like The Enhancer and T.C., and Old School RBL Posse type production....old school too short type production

Im Speakin for myself if anybody agrees lemme know so that i know im not alone

BRING BACK MOBB MUSIC
