Meet the Artist – Lewis Parker

It’s best to watch it with subtitles.

In this episode of Meet the Artist, we take a closer look at Lewis Parker – one of the UK’s most respected hip-hop producers, rappers, and beatmakers, widely recognized as a master of boom bap and instrumental hip-hop.

Born in London to a Barbadian family and raised in Canterbury, Lewis Parker began making his mark as a teenager with the releases B Boy Antiks and Rise / Visions of Splendour on Trevor Jackson’s Bite It! label. His soulful, sample-based production drew comparisons to the golden-era sound of 1990s New York hip-hop, inspired by legendary producers such as Pete Rock and the D.I.T.C. collective.

He later signed with Massive Attack’s Virgin Records imprint, Melankolic, releasing his acclaimed debut album Masquerades & Silhouettes (1998), followed by It’s All Happening Now. Throughout his career, Parker has collaborated with numerous influential artists, including Jehst, The Sundragon, Champions of Nature, and Ghostface Killah contributing production to the acclaimed albums Fishscale and More Fish.

Now based in London, Lewis Parker continues to build on a legacy defined by rich musicality, timeless beats, and an uncompromising dedication to authentic hip-hop culture.
