The Los Angeles underground was already watching Ant Jefe closely, the South Central–raised rapper turned podcaster who carved out a lane on No Jumper with raw storytelling, street?level insight, and a personality that felt both unpredictable and authentic. But this week, his name hit headlines for a very different reason:
Ant Jefe, real name Maurice Shelmon, was arrested in Los Angeles and charged with felony murder.
The news broke through TMZ and quickly spread across hip?hop media, sending shockwaves through the No Jumper community and the broader LA scene. According to multiple reports, Shelmon was taken into custody on May 19 by the LAPD’s Robbery?Homicide Division and booked on $1 million bail.
No Jumper founder Adam22 reacted publicly, calling the arrest a “huge shock” and noting that Ant Jefe had seemingly stepped away from street activity in recent years. Co?hosts echoed the sentiment during a livestream, saying Jefe had been “just a podcaster, YouTuber… big chilling.”
Authorities have not released detailed information about the case, and much of the situation remains sealed or undisclosed. What is known is that the charge is tied to a homicide investigation — with some outlets reporting the victim as Carl Welch, whose death was ruled a homicide by blunt force trauma.
