"WEC 46: Varner vs. Henderson" pre-sale tickets available beginning Thursday

World Extreme Cagefighting recently announced its first event of 2010, and tickets for the Jan. 10 card go on sale later this week.

Featuring a lightweight title unification bout between current champ Jamie Varner and interim champ Benson Henderson, "WEC 46: Varner vs. Henderson" takes place at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif.

Pre-sale tickets go on sale Thursday.

Tickets go on sale to WEC.tv newsletter subscribers on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m PT). Subscribers are given a pre-sale password to make a purchase before tickets go on sale to the general public. Tickets are then available to all buyers on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m PT).

Tickets for the 17,000-seat venue are priced at $200, $135, $75, and $40.

In addition to the lightweight title unification bout, WEC 46 will also feature a featherweight showdown between former champ and hometown hero Urijah Faber and submission wizard Raphael Assuncao.

ARCO Arena has proven the WEC's most profitable venue with two previous trips to the building netting crowds of greater than 12,000 and live gates in excess of $738,000. However, those two cards each featured Faber in a headlining role.

I'm taking Varner in this one. Sprawl & brawl.

Thinking about going now...hmm...what's the rest of the card looking like?

By the way, I'm still super juiced for Aldo vs Brown, just thought I'd throw that out there

Torres should be ready by then. Haven't heard any rumors, but it'll be 5 months since he last fought. I think Bowles is out till February at the earliest. Valencia, Wineland, Tapia, Semerzier (guy who beat Waggney), Jabouin... were all on the Cerrone-Bendo card so they should be ready to fight.

And yeah I've watched Aldo's last 3 fights and MTB's 2 against Urijah and the Garcia beatdown in the past week. Gonna be a war or someone getting KTFO a minute in haha.

The fight card for the Jan. 10 "WEC 46: Varner vs. Henderson" event is taking shape, and a four-fight main card is now set.

As the organization previously announced, the event features a headliner and title-unfication bout between lightweight champion Jamie Varner (16-2 MMA, 4-0 WEC) and interim title-holder Benson Henderson (10-1 MMA, 3-0 WEC), as well as a co-headliner of Urijah Faber (22-3 MMA, 7-2 WEC) vs. Raphael Assuncao (14-1 MMA, 1-0 WEC).

Also on the Versus-televised main card are featherweights Mackens Semerzier (6-0 MMA, 1-0 WEC) vs. Deividas Taurosevicius (11-3 MMA, 1-0 WEC) and bantamweights Charlie Valencia (11-5 MMA, 4-3 WEC) vs. Akitoshi Tamura (13-7-2 MMA, 1-1 WEC).

The event takes place at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif.

Varner, who returns from a year layoff due to injuries, and Henderson, who recently topped Donald Cerrone for the interim belt, meet to determine WEC's true lightweight kingpin. Faber and Assuncao, meanwhile, look to claim No. 1 contender's status in the 145-pound division, which is now ruled by recently crowned champ Jose Aldo.

Semerzier and Taurosevicius also look to improve their stock in the featherweight division. Semerzier recently pulled off one of the year's biggest upsets by submitting the highly touted Wagnney Fabiano at WEC 43. Like Semerzier, Taurosevicius also made his WEC debut at the event and topped Javier Vazquez via split decision.

In the night's opening main-card bout, Valencia goes for his third straight WEC victory when he meets Tamura, who hasn't competed since an April victory over Manny Tapia in the WEC.

Also signed for WEC 46 are two preliminary card bouts. UFC veteran Mark Homick (16-8 MMA, 0-2 WEC) hopes to avoid his third consecutive loss in the WEC when he takes on fellow Canadian featherweight Yves Jabouin (14-5 MMA, 0-1 WEC), who snapped a four-fight win streak with a split-decision defeat to Assuncao in his WEC debut.

Additionally, Eddie Wineland (15-6-1 MMA, 1-1 WEC) looks to build off an October decision win over Tapia when he meets fellow bantamweight Rafael Rebello (6-3 MMA, 1-1 WEC), who scored a first-round submission win over Kyle Dietz in June.

Mike Brown vs. Anthony Morrison added to "WEC 46: Varner vs. Henderson"

Former WEC featherweight champ Mike Brown (22-5 MMA, 4-1 WEC) returns to action in January against WEC newcomer Anthony Morrison (10-7 MMA, 0-0 WEC).

The WEC today announced the bout, which will take place on the main card of "WEC 46: Varner vs. Henderson" on Jan. 10 at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif.

Brown and Morrison join a lineup that already includes a lightweight title unification bout between current champ Jamie Varner and interim champ Ben Henderson, as well as the return of Urijah Faber in front of his hometown crowd.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed with WEC officials that WEC 46 will feature a five-fight main card on a two-and-a-half hour Versus broadcast.

Brown looks to bounce back from a November loss to new featherweight champion Jose Aldo. The loss was Brown's first since 2005, but the veteran said after the bout he knew it would eventually come.

"It's hard to beat the best guys in the world over and over," Brown said. "When you're fighting the top two or three guys in the world each time, over and over and over and over and over, it's hard not to let one slip through your fingers.

"If you're fighting easy fights, yeah, you could win 20 in a row. But when you're fighting the guys that are second in the world, third in the world, first in the world, third in the world, that type of competition, you don't win every game."

Meanwhile, while Morrison's career record pales in comparison to that of Brown, he does come to the organization after winning four of his past five contests. Prior to the recent streak, Morrison had never alternated wins and losses in his first 12 career contests.

Morrison has faced notables Micah Miller, Jim Miller and Deividas Taurosevicius, though he dropped all three bouts. Morrison's most recent performance was a Dec. 4 submission-by-punches win over UFC veteran Alvin Robinson.

With the addition, WEC 46 now includes:

MAIN CARD

* Champ Jamie Varner vs. interim champ Benson Henderson (to unify lightweight title)
* Raphael Assuncao vs. Urijah Faber
* Mike Brown vs. Anthony Morrison
* Mackens Semerzier vs. Deividas Taurosevicius
* Akitoshi Tamura vs. Charlie Valencia

PRELIMINARY CARD

* Wagnney Fabiano vs. Frank Gomez
* Dave Jansen vs. Kamal Shalorus
* Mark Hominick vs. TBA*
* Rafael Rebello vs. Eddie Wineland

Jansen vs. Shalorus bumped to WEC 46 main card; Moreng forced to withdraw

A bout between undefeated WEC lightweights Dave Jansen (14-0 MMA, 1-0 WEC) and Kamal Shalorus (5-0-1 MMA, 1-0 WEC) has been shifted to the main card of "WEC 46: Varner vs. Henderson."

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) learned from sources close to the event that the contest was recently promoted from its previous spot on the evening's preliminary card.

Featuring a lightweight title unification match between 115-pound champ Jamie Varner and interim champ Benson Henderson, WEC 46 takes place on Jan. 10 at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif.

The main card airs on Versus.

Jansen, a SportFight and M-1 Challenge veteran, posted 13 consecutive wins (eight via stoppage) to start his career and earn a WEC contract. He made his promotional debut in October and stopped veteran Richard Crunkilton (16-3) via decision at WEC 43.

Shalorus, meanwhile, turned pro less than two years ago but quickly earned his way into the WEC following a 4-0-1 run. The Iranian fighter made it 5-0-1 after defeating Will Kerr via 86-second TKO at WEC 44 earlier this month. Shalorus, who was moved to the night's televised main card at the last minute, dazzled in his debut and won over the crowd with a passionate post-fight speech.

Meanwhile, MMAjunkie.com has also learned that bantamweight Jesse Moreng (9-1 MMA, 0-1 WEC) has been forced to withdraw from his contest with "The Ultimate Fighter 8" cast member George Roop (10-5 MMA, 0-0 WEC) after suffering an undisclosed injury.

Roop, a former lightweight prepping for his first fight at 135 pounds, now waits on the announcement of a new opponent.

With the changes, as well as the recent announcement that former WEC featherweight champ Mike Brown would appear on the card, WEC 46 now includes:

MAIN CARD

* Champ Jamie Varner vs. interim champ Benson Henderson (to unify lightweight title)
* Raphael Assuncao vs. Urijah Faber
* Mike Brown vs. Anthony Morrison
* Dave Jansen vs. Kamal Shalorus
* Mackens Semerzier vs. Deividas Taurosevicius

PRELIMINARY CARD

* Akitoshi Tamura vs. Charlie Valencia
* Wagnney Fabiano vs. Frank Gomez
* Mark Hominick vs. TBA*
* Rafael Rebello vs. Eddie Wineland
* Will Campuzano vs. Coty Wheeler
* George Roop vs. TBA*
