LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Death Row rap label founder Marion "Suge" Knight was released from a California prison after serving 10 months for violating his parole on a 1997 assault conviction, a prison official said on Friday.

Described as a "model inmate," Knight was released on Thursday from Mule Creek State Prison in Ione, state Department of Corrections spokeswoman Margot Bach said.

A state parole panel sent Knight back to prison on Aug. 4 for his second parole violation after he punched a parking attendant outside a Hollywood nightclub last summer.

Knight, 39, said on Monday that he plans to produce a hip-hop album to benefit financially troubled families of soldiers in Iraq (news - web sites) by Christmas.

He still faces a federal probe into the 1997 murder of rapper Christopher Wallace, known as Notorious B.I.G. or Biggie Smalls. Wallace's murder followed the shooting of legendary gangsta rapper Tupac Shakur (news), who was shot dead in Las Vegas while riding in a car driven by Knight in September 1996.
