Fifty year old eighth degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Rickson Gracie has seen his fair share of controversy following his last professional fight in May of 2000.

The mythical submission specialist has claimed to possess a fighting record somewhere in the range of 400-0.

Rickson caught quite a bit of backlash following comments made to Tokyo Sports in which he stated that heavyweight king Fedor Emelianenko had “so-so” technical ability.

The native of Brazil recently revealed to The Rio de Janeiro Times that he feels confident that he would come out on top of a match-up between himself and Brock Lesnar or Fedor, regardless of his age or nine year layoff.

However, Rickson does admit that it would likely take him a little bit longer to submit “The Last Emperor”.

“[Brock Lesnar] is impressive as an athlete, but he has holes in his game like anybody else,” said Gracie. “Technically, he is not as good as Fedor.

“It would take me longer to submit Fedor than it would him

“I am not worried about his abilities. Whether he punches at me on the ground or standing, it is only a matter of time. In some ways, it is easier if he tries to punch at me standing. All the simpler to take him down. It ends in an armbar or a strangle regardless”

^^ randy was doing a good job in his fight against brock until he got clipped with that punch to the side of the head
Yup. Brock won, but Randy didnt give it to him easy.

Rickson's an idiot, but Choke was a pretty sick movie.
I never believed any of the Gracies' 500+ wins. But what alot of people dont know was back then, Rickson was a force. If Royce was a huge force in the UFC early days, think how Rickson would be if he went the famous route Royce did.

Most people talk about older fighters.. but back then, they were the best of the best.. 15yrs from now, a younger generation will probably say the same thing about Fedor and Big Nog. Of course great fighters past their prime are gonna say something about fighters that are currently running MMA.

Maybe a Rickson in his prime could take out Brock.

I read somewhere that Royce was chosen over Rickson to represent Gracie JJ in the UFC, because of his relatively smaller stature, proving that it was technique and skill rather than size and strength that mattered most.

Rickson was also doing something else too.

I trained with both Royce and Rickson and they offer something different. IMO, Rickson is more aggressive.

The topic title is correct though. Rickson could possible submit Brock faster than Fedor. Fedor knows how to submit and defend it bekuz he does sambo (russian Grappling/judo). Brock is just a D1 wrestler, which is dope and really top of the line.. but that dont teach you to how to defend against submissions.

and that's just looking at the factors. Whether Rickson can fight off Fedor or Brock NOW is the question at hand.

I think you got that confused with one of the reasons Fedor didn't sign with them was that they didn't want him competing in sambo tournaments in Russia so he wouldn't get hurt or lose. Sambo's a lot like MMA but with a different point system and they wear headgear and pads. Arlovski was more of a sambo guy before he decided he wanted to be a boxer.

Anyways, I think in a couple years Roger Gracie has a shot at subbing Fedor and Brock. In straight up grappling he'd probably beat them both right now.

well, there's different types of sambo. combat sambo is more like mma.

I train Sambo with Serge and he's part of ASA. ASA is the most recognized in the nation. Sambo Steve and Reily bodycomb (look at youtube under remix dojo) are also part of this.

I was given the differences in the sport sambo and combat Sambo.

Guida told me Marcelo Garcia came to their gym and rolled with every single guy that was there. Thought that was pretty cool.

And ya my bad I had just watched a video of Fedor's little brother fighting in combat sambo so that was the first image that came to mind. Tell Sergei to stop being fat and start kicking the shit out of people again.

oh, I dont fuck wid sergei.

this is the guy I train with.

I've learned alot from Sambo. See, Sambo has alot of lower body control and focus (leg locks).. while bjj is mainly above the waist (in bjj tourneys, they use to not allow leg locks bekuz leg locks were looked at as cheap shots.
