Chavez Jr. Makes Celaya Quit in Eight
In a very tough fight, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (35-0, 28KOs) stopped Jose Celaya (31-4, 16KOs) in eight round at the Domo De La Feria in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico.
In the first round, Celaya started well by switching between the orthodox and southpaw stance to land some decent punches to the head of Chavez Jr.
Chavez came back in the second by landing a crushing left hook to drop Celaya. Chavez tried to finish him off, but Celaya was able to fight his way out of trouble. Celaya then came back to win the third with some slick boxing and began switching between the orthodox and southpaw stance to win the fourth.
Celaya began to show his experience as a solid amateur by outhustling Chavez with crisp counters, but Chavez's punches were bruising up the entire face of Celaya. Chavez was being outworked in most rounds. Still, he was landing the bigger punches, which were causing the most damage.
In the eight round, Chavez dropped Celaya again with a hard right hand and went for the finish. The two fighters began trading punches as Celaya, who could not see out of his closed right-eye, walked away in the middle of an exchange, after Chavez landed a punch on the right eye, and quit.
