You do know that mixtapes are a promotional tool used by artists to develop an interest in their upcoming album. That DJ Drama and the rest of the legitimate mixtape DJs in the game are paid by the record labels and have unspoken permission to use material by their artists. That mixtape DJs are being hired by record companies to assist and even head their A&R departments. That there is hardly any money in the mixtape game for a DJ and it really is just a promotional tool for them to attract corporate interest. That a mixtape DJ is the most likely reason for an artist breaking through to a national level.

You do realize that album sales are down but online sales are up. That the quality of the music of a Gangsta Grillz mixtape is better for the fact that there is no label influence or guidelines imposed. That the albums are watered down because people are hypnotized into liking the same thing, keep supporting the same thing and force record companies to produce the same thing in the interest of profit. That if it doesn't sound like the flavor of the month, it doesn't get interest outside it's region.

You do realize that a lack of commerical success doesn't always equate to a failure and a commerical success doesn't equate to a loyal fan base. That Tech N9ne is outselling Game's tour 2-1 with 1/20th of the soundscanned sales. That the real money in music is not found in album sales. "Who is Mike Jones?". More like "Where is Mike Jones?".

Mixtapes aren't killing album sales. Bad music with a life span of months (and its acceptance) is.

I think it's the artist's fault for mixtapes oversaturating the market. An artist should only release a mixtape so that they can stay in the public eye and they should use at most like 2-3 unoriginal beats. And that's stretching it.

I'm tired of seeing artists putting out like 6 mixtapes before they drop their next or even first album. I mean if you are making an album and have a bunch of leftover tracks why not release a mixtape with those tracks to hype your album. But don't be a fuckin lazy piece of shit and jack beats on every track and even jack lyrics and choruses as well. I don't want to compare which of 25 songs is better with the same beat, and "different" lyrics.

Also, DJ's should be the ones releasing the mixtapes, not the artists. And DJ's should not be lazy or untalented when doing so. Make it an actual "mix"tape. Blend the songs for christ sake! Any joe schmoe with a few connections can get 15 tracks from various artists. Stay true to the game and don't do what everybody else is doing. At least stick to the basics.
