^^^To each his own, but I'm thinking more along the lines that his style and skills needed to progress and they didn't. It wasn't just Premier beats that made him, but they definitely helped a lot.

Whether the West Coast bought them or not, the first two Jazzmatazz albums were successful by standards in those years, and they had no Premier beats.

His shit is boo boo as all fuck nowadays, so I can see why you wouldn't like him now...but not ever? There were some lyrics behind that monotone delivery back in the days.
