Divine Rhyme is a hip-hop duo from Bethlehem, PA comprised of Sir Sheck (Philadelphia, PA) and Jahizzi (San Francisco, CA). Their first studio production, Announce My Fame EP, was released in April 2009.
The two first met at Lehigh University in 2007 and immediately realized they both shared the same passion for hip hop. Unfortunately, the hip-hop scene at Lehigh was non-existent, so the two decided to put matters into their own hands and start making original music. They saw strong success among students, which resulted in them getting a chance to open for the Cool Kids in a spring 2008 show at Lehigh. Since then they have been the go to group for music on campus and in the local area, having shared the stage with other up-and-coming acts including Blu and Kidz in the Hall.
In the spring of 2009, Divine Rhyme’s big break came after beating out 10 bands in a Battle of the Bands competition. Their reward was the opening spot for a 3,000 person concert featuring The Roots at Lehigh. Concurrently, they released their first EP, Announce My Fame. Throughout 2009, Divine Rhyme has been playing at bars and clubs in the Bethlehem area attracting an upwards of 200 people each time they perform. They have also included a 5-piece live band to play along side them adding a strong element to their sound that you don’t get with simply having a DJ.
With the success seen at Lehigh and Bethlehem, Divine Rhyme is looking to expand further into new markets and breathe life and energy back into Hip-Hop.
