UFC President Dana White was honored over the weekend as 2009 Nevada Sportsman of the Year, joining previous honorees Joe and Gavin Maloof, UNLV basketball coach Lon Kruger and boxing promoter Bob Arum as a recipient of the award.

But White wasn't the only big winner of the weekend.

The reception and fund-raising radio marathon on ESPN Radio 1100 netted over $250,000 for Las Vegas' The Caring Place according to a report from KVBC in Las Vegas.

The Caring Place is a non-profit organization that supports, educates and empowers individuals, children and families on their journeys with cancer in order to enhance their quality of life. The Caring Place provides free programs and services designed to complement conventional cancer treatments.

Donations were raised through a variety of auction items as well as the chance for bidders to co-host segments of the radio marathon with such UFC personalities as Stephan Bonnar, Randy Couture, Rashad Evans, Forrest Griffin, Chuck Liddell, Amir Sadollah, Matt Serra, Mike Swick, Brandon Vera and White, himself.

White also pledged $100,000 of his own money to the cause, adding his donation to the $2,000 winning bid offered by one reception attendee for a dinner with Forrest Griffin, cooked by the former light heavyweight champ.

The UFC still has three prize packages available for public auction on ebay.
