After losing back-to-back fights since his July 2010 return, Seth Petruzelli (12-6 MMA, 0-4 UFC) has been released from his UFC contract.

Petruzelli has been credited with ending EliteXC and exposing Kimbo Slice’s questionable chin. Petruzelli first appeared on season 2 of The Ultimate Fighter as a heavyweight. He was eliminated in the semifinals by Brad Imes after having defeated Dan Christison by unanimous decision in an elimination bout. He later had the opportunity to fight in the UFC in 2006, but was cut for the first time after losses to Matt Hamill and Wilson Gouveia. He returned to the UFC after four straight victories, including a TKO victory over Kimbo Slice in 13 seconds, an event that was live on CBS.

After four fights and only one loss, Gerald Harris’ (17-3 MMa, 3-1 UFC) stay in the UFC has come to an end. The former Ultimate Fighter competitor dropped a unanimous decision to UFC newcomer Maiquel Falcao at UFC 123 on Saturday night and was later released from the organization. One could speculate that Harris’ release is the result of a chorus of boo’s after a lackluster third round performance in UFC 123.

Harris appeared on season seven of The Ultimate Fighter and was eliminated in the second round by Amir Sadollah, who was the eventual winner of that season. Harris was not signed after the show, but later received a contract after a handful of victories outside of the UFC.

Following a first round knock out to veteran Dennis Hallman (50-13-2 MMA, 3-4 UFC) Karo Parisyan (19-6 MMA, 8-4 UFC) was released by the UFC for the second time.

Parisyan was first released after pulling out of a fight with Dustin Hazelett at UFC 106 the night before the event because of panic attacks; earlier in the year he had his win over Dong Hyun Kim overturned to a no contest due to a failed drug test for prescription pain killers he was prescribed.

Parisyan rebounded with a win over Ben Mortimer by rear naked choke at Impact FC 1 – The Uprising, and earned another chance in the UFC, but showed up looking unmotivated. His lack of discipline showed with his performance Saturday; Parysian was knocked out in the first round.
Another fighter who was in the hot seat Saturday was Lightweight Tyson Griffin (14-5 MMA, 7-5 UFC) who lost a controversial split decision to Nik Lentz (20-3-2 MMA, 4-0-1 UFC).

The loss was Griffin’s third straight in the UFC after dropping a split decision to fast rising contender Evan Dunham at UFC 115. A flash knockout to former Pride Fighting Champion Takanori Gomi at UFC Live: Jones vs. Matyushenko and most recently Saturday’s loss to Nik Lentz on the preliminary card of the event.
Dana White wasn’t happy with the split decision loss to Nik Lentz and said “Tyson Griffin got [expletive] big time tonight.”

British welterweight Nick Osipczak (5-3 MMA, 2-3 UFC) has received his walking papers from the UFC following a loss to Duane “Bang” Ludwig (20-11 MMA, 3-2 UFC).

Osipczak opened his MMA career with three straight victories before appearing on season 9 of The Ultimate Fighter. He defeated Tommy Maguire by knockout in an elimination match to move into the house. Nick then lost his semifinal fight against DaMarques Johnson via unanimous decision and bounced him from the tournament.

Nick next appeared on The Ultimate Finale 9 on June 20, 2009 and defeated his cast mate Frank Lester by submission, he then defeated Matt Riddle by TKO at UFC 105. His next three fights he wouldn’t be so lucky, losing decisions to Rick Story at UFC 112, Greg Soto at UFC 118 and finaly to Duane Ludwig at UFC 122.
