car accident/total loss question

i was involved in a pretty serious car accident yesterday, an suv hit a city bus, i was on the other side of the bus and got hit the first time (dont know if the bus or suv hit me first), that hit spun me around and then the suv hit me. so both sides of my car are damaged.
i want my car to be declared a total loss, right now it's still in impound for investigation so the ins. co hasnt even seen it yet. my question is, does the insurance company have any flexbility in declaring it a total loss? let's say they want to repair it, can i offer to accept a certain $ amount and have it totaled out? help....

I got into an accident couple years back. The car could have been repaired but the insurance payment wouldnt have covered it so i told them to just crush it.

if somtehing hit you and spun you around, then something hit you again after that, your car is probably unrepairable.
