But in the first round Ward was stunned by a hard jab which was by far the most effective punch landed in the round. I think you have to give that round to Kovalev since Ward didn't land anything significant and got stunned. You score that correctly for Kovalev and it's a draw on your scorecard, yeah?
Too hard to call. It was a lot dirtier than I thought it would be. Like I said, I think Ward's defense definitely made Kovalev look bad at times. And kovalev's frustrations made it look a lot worse. It was that close. Imma give it to Ward, bro. His resilience was a huge game changer
I think kovalev won that fight he was landing some hard ass shots out powering ward. But ward was catching kovalev pretty slick. This fight reminds me of canelo vs Lara. But this time ward won the fight.
I thought Kovalev won, but I also didn't think there were 7 rounds that he won definitively. I see a lot of people saying it should've been a draw but there's no way it could've been with a 10-8 unless you throw a 10-10 round somewhere in there which judges nearly never do.
I don't think 114-113 Ward is an atrocious score by any stretch.
I hate dirty fighting too! But for whatever reason, I didn't mind it in this fight. Kovalev was Hella dirty too. If Kovalev didn't fight as dirty I think he would have had more stamina in the later rounds because he knew he was stronger than Ward so he was shoving him pretty hard. He should have just let Ward hold and kovalev should have just boxed. But he fell into Wards trap and got fatigued.
Wow really?? I scored it 115-112 Ward. Kovalev didnt win a round after the 6th. Kovalev was up 4-2 after 6 rounds with a knockdown which gives him a 3 point lead. Kovalev didnt win a round after that in my book. He faded and got frustrated and Ward out boxed him, took it to his body and took over the fight. How can yall not see him winning 7 rounds is beyond me lol. I guess man.......Got Em!!

I'll make this quick. Look at rds 10 and 12. Why are you giving those to Ward? I'll give Kovalev the middle of the fight, he got frustrated, let off the gas and it came back to haunt him. But Ward never controlled the entire fight either. So what you, T and the sick as judges did was give Ward an early round and EVERY round that could have gone either way.

There were some close rounds but I just try to score it how I see it and I dont like giving even rounds. I do agree very close but I gave Ward the edge and thought he controlled the fight the 2nd half and yes he did win rounds 3 & 5 in my book as far as the first half. I can see a draw so Im not arguing that a draw wasnt possible. Just the way I saw it I scored it for Ward in a close contest. Got Em!!
Everyone here has made good points. And our scores have been all over the place which should tell everyone there was no clear winner. When we have people who thought Ward won clearly, people who thought Kovalev won clearly and people who say it was too close to call, that tells us there is no right answer here and they NEED to rematch, immediately.
Ward wants to be the next Mayweather, well when Floyd had a controversial decision over Castillo he gave an immediate rematch so Ward needs to do the same to erase any doubt.

I scored a 10-10 round myself, in fact I think there could have been a few even rounds. I'm going to rescore later. I hope other people do as well, I'd love to break down some of those close rounds and see the arguments for either guy.

Oh I'm not saying there shouldn't be 10-10 rounds, just that I normally stay away from them when trying to score fights myself since judges very very rarely use them. Also part of me kind of likes the idea that someone has to win that round.
I thought it was a great fight and they should definitely do it again.
The real robbery happened on the fight before that where there is absolutely no way Hooker drew with Perez much less won 7/10 rounds.

Hooker looked like trash and was exposed big time. Terrible decision, maybe the worst I've seen this year but I'm sure I'm forgetting some obvious robberies.
I don't really like the idea that a fighter MUST win a round. There are just too many instances where neither guys does anything in a round and back in the day scoring even rounds was the norm, at some point judges shifted away from that. Judging sucks so bad in boxing so it's really a small issue considering how bad it is overall, but they really gotta figure something out and make some drastic changes, there is just no consistency whatsoever.

I agree that something needs to be done about judging. I think I've said it before but I really like what they do in Argentina where they allow a 9.5 score in a close round. I.E. in a round where not much happen but maybe one guy got the better of it you can score it 10 for one guy and 9.5 for the other.
