Chad needed that. His style is way too passive, and that's part of the reason why he can't attract flies to shit as far as selling tickets goes.

Great talent, needs to take more risks.

Judah vs Mabuza is Heading To The Prudential Center

By Lem Satterfield

According to IBF president Darryl Peoples, Main Events and CEO Kathy Duva won Thursday's purse bid at the IBF headquarters in East Orange, N.J., for the right to hold the organization's junior welterweight title bout between southpaw former junior welterweight and welterweight titlist Zab Judah of Las Vegas and Kaizer Mabuza of South Africa, likely in February or March at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

The winning bid was $50,000.

Duva said - "We are very happy that Zab has the opportunity to fight for the IBF Junior Welterweight title right here in New Jersey. Winning this fight will put Zab right in the mix with the winner of Bradley-Alexander and Amir Khan. Zab will work very hard to win this fight so that he will be one step closer to his ultimate goal of unifying all of the Junior Welterweight titles by the end of 2011!”

Haye-Wladimir likely for April or May – News

By Eric Thomas: According to an inside source, the mega fight between IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and WBA heavyweight title holder David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) will likely take place on April 30th or in May.

It’s come down to the date and the venue being the last things that need to be ironed out for the negotiations. They are working on getting the date set, so hopefully this fight will be announced soon.

The Haye-Wladimir fight is the only one boxing fans really care about in the heavyweight division. Haye has spoken and said he prefers to fight Wladimir rather than his steel-chinned brother WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, who Haye would have very little chance of beating.

Steward urging Wladimir Klitschko to fight Haye to help boxing – News

By William Mackay: Trainer Emanuel Steward is pushing for his fighter IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) to forget about getting everything he wants in his negotiations with World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) and to go ahead and fight him anyway to help the sport of boxing. Wladimir, 34, has been trying to iron out a contract with the 30-year-old Haye which would make it a 50-50 deal.

It seems only logical that Wladimir would choose to do this, as Haye has only a tiny amount of experience at the heavyweight level and most of that has come against aging heavyweights 36 to 39-years-old. Haye has fought exactly five times at heavyweight and none of those fights have come against younger heavyweights with power like Denis Boytsov or Alexander Povetkin.

In an article at sportinglife.com, Steward says “Thse guys should stop arguing over every nicket and dime and get this fight done. It’s got to be 50-50 all the way. Get this fight signed as soon as possible for the good of boxing.”

There is a lot of complicated things that need to be agreed on in the contract and it would silly for Wladimir to give in and take less than what he deserves. Realistically, this fight shoudln’t even be a 50-50 deal. Wladimir has the more experience, both in terms of overall fights and at heavyweight, so it’s him that should be getting the bigger deal. If he was smart he would tell Haye to take the smaller cut or take a walk. Wladimir should be the one that chooses the venue, the pay split and even the referee. No way should he just give in to Haye just because Steward is pushing him.

The trainer can't always change the fighter. Steward wasn't doing much in the way of excitement when Taylor was edging out 154lbers in fall asleep while watching type of fights.

I think Dawson will be alright though. I think he'll beat Pascal the second go around and either set up another big money fight trilogy in Canada or start going after the other Canadian money maker.

True Naner, but I think just having a fresh set of eyes as to what some of the areas of opportunities were will definitely help. In Chad's case, I think his style was just too passive, and hopefully Steward can point that out and they can make adjustments.

Abner Mares Wants The Montiel vs. Donaire Winner

By Jhonny Gonzalez

Bantamweight Abner Mares has a lot of hope for his growing career and the state of Mexican boxing in 2011. Mares got the biggest win of his career with a twelve round decision over IBO champion Vic Darchinyan a few weeks ago. Mares broke Darchinyan's streak of Mexican victims. The boxer had beaten the likes of Cristian Mijares, Jorge Arce and Tomás Rojas.

"It was not an easy victory at all. I must admit that Darchinyan hit me like nobody else in the past, but I showed that I have heart, technique and courage," said Mares to Sal Rodriguez. "Suddenly you think of what happened during the year and I think we should celebrate my victory as Fernando Montiel beat Hozumi Hasegawa and Giovanni Segura beat Ivan Calderon."

Mares will now move forward in Showtime's bantamweight tournament to face IBF champion Joseph Agbeko in the finals. He wants to be impressive to force the issue of fighting the winner of Fernando Montiel vs. Nonito Donaire, which takes place on February 19.

"In the bantamweight tournament final, I'll be facing Joseph Agbeko. It will not be an easy fight, and although I know that I'm not favorite - I'll create another surprise and convince people that I can face the winner of Fernando Montiel and Nonito Donaire," Mares said.

Saul Alvarez: I May Have To Face a Mosley or Cotto

By Jhonny Gonzalez

WBC silver junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez wants to become a big player by the end of 2011. To do this, he knows that he has to take a risk against a top name in the sport. Two of the names he's thrown out there are Shane Mosley and Miguel Cotto, the WBA champion at 154. Currently Golden Boy Promotions is trying to finalize the details for Canelo's next fight on March 5.

"It was a very good year. I'm happy because I made my debut on the right foot with Golden Boy Promotions. As a promoter I crowned my first champion, and because I personally feel very well," said Alvarez to Sal Rodriguez. "The plan is to enter the major league of boxing before the year ends. I may have to face a Miguel Cotto or Shane Mosley, to show the critics that I have what it takes."

Pacquiao beats Sergio Martinez for Fighter of the Year in 2010 Ring Fan Poll

December 31st, 2010
By Dave Lahr: Manny Pacquiao, with the help of his legions of fans. was able to beat out WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez for Fighter of the Year for 2010 in the Ring Fan Poll. The final results were Pacquiao 71%, Martinez 24%. Juan Manuel Lopez 2%, Fernando Montiel 2% and Giovanii Segura 1%. It’s sad that all Pacquiao had to do to win the poll was beat Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito, both Top Rank fighters that share the same stable as Pacquiao.

Clottey, a one-time IBF welterweight champion with a tendency to throw few punches and just cover, did little more than cover up all night long in his fight with Pacquiao. It was hardly a fight, and shocking that Clottey didn’t put more of an effort into winning the fight. To get the honor of fighting of Pacquiao, Clottey lost his fight prior the Pacquiao bout to Miguel Cotto. And in Pacquiao’s bout against Margarito, Pacquiao was getting a fighter that had been recently destroyed by 38-year-old Shane Mosley, and struggled against an obscure fighter by the name of Roberto Garcia.

In contrast to the wins that Pacquiao chalked up to win the poll, Martinez beat WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik, the fighter that many boxing fans previously considered to be the best fighter in the middleweight division. Martinez tore Pavlik apart in the later rounds of the fight and left Pavlik a bloody mess in a 12 round decision. In Martinez’s last fight, he stopped Paul Williams in a 2nd round knockout. I don’t know about you, but I say the wins over Pavlik and Williams were far more impressive than Pacquiao’s victories over Clottey and Margarito. There’s no comparison, really.

Share and Enjoy:

here is a picture of margarito from a day or two ago:

eye still fucked up a month later

____________

That big African Cruiserweight trained by Roach, Lateef Kayode (15-0, 14 KO's) is fighting on Showbox on Feb 4th against Iannuzzi (16-1, 9 KO's). I like watching this guy curious to see how far he can progress.

____________

Marco Antonio Rubio (same guy that lost to Pavlik a while back) just beat udefeated Wilson Santana which the winner is to fight the newest Canadian Knock out artist sensation David Lemieux in a WBC title eliminator, so Rubio vs Lemieux should happen in the next couple months.

__________

Wlad Klitschko vs David Haye everyone continues to say is close to being done, likely for April or May of 2011. I'll make a thread only when it's official. Never know with these guys.

Sergio Martinez clearly deserves it. Winning the MW titles by beating Pavlik to a bloody pulp and KO'ing the pound 4 pound #3 fighter in the world in 2 rounds is a better year than anyone else in boxing, imo.

So the The Ring's article was a fan's poll, like who's the most popular. I think Martinez clearly gets Fighter of the Year, as well as Knock out of the Year.
