Right on. It's kinda surprising there aren't more fights down in NO. Seems like good sports fans down there in general
I think it's a combination of a lot of things. New Orleans used to be a huge boxing town and unlike a lot of places has real boxing tradition. There's a statue not that far from where I grew up commemorating the Jem Mace Vs. Tom Allen.

The main thing is the ridiculous corruption they have down here in general and the tax they put on almost every major event that drives people away from wanting to host any kind of show down here.

Also Katrina basically whipped out every boxing gym in New Orleans and fights were already on the decline around here at the time.

We could definitely host fights down here. The New Orleans Arena is right by the Superdome which is right by downtown. I mean we've held multiple Super Bowls without any trouble.

All in all if you don't feel like reading all that shit, lack of local fighters, lack of gyms, heavy political corruption did New Orleans in.

Chavez Jr won’t exercise his mandatory status for fight against Anthony Dirrell

julio cesar chavez jr anthony dirrell By Scott Gilfoid:
Former WBC 160lb champ Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (48-1-1, 32 KOs) has decided not to face WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell (27-0-1, 22 KOs). Chavez Jr, ranked #1 WBC, would have been the next guy in line to fight Dirrell, but Chavez Jr has instead opted to pass on fighting the unbeaten talent for some reason.

According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, the WBC was notified that Chavez Jr won’t be exercising his mandatory challenger status for a shot against Dirrell. As such, Dirrell can now take an optional defense against whomever he would like to face.

The mandatory position will be worked out next month when George Groves faces Christopher Rebrasse in a WBC super middleweight eliminator bout on September 20th.

I had a feeling this was going to happen because Chavez Jr hasn’t taken a meaningful fight since he faced Sergio Martinez in 2012, and Dirrell might be too dangerous for Chavez Jr at this point, given how poor he looked in his last three fights against Brian Vera [twice] and Martinez.

Chavez Jr has been trying to put together a fight against IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch, but that fight is now up in the air due to the negotiations crawling. Chavez Jr had a chance to fight Gennady Golovkin before that, but that fight too failed to happen. It’s been 5 months since Chavez Jr last fought, and my guess he’s not going to fight again in 2014.

Dirrell now can pick anyone he’d like to face next. It would be nice to see him face Froch in a revenge of the brother type fight, where Dirrell would be attempting to avenge his brother Andre Dirrell’s loss to Froch. But unfortunately, Froch and his promoter Eddie Hearn probably have no interest in making a fight against the blistering fast and powerful Dirrell. The fight would nbe a dangerous one, and I guess that might be reason enough for why the fight won’t happen.

Here are the top contenders the WBC had ranked for 168:

1. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
2. Gilberto Ramirez
3. Christopher Rebrasse
4. George Groves
5. Vacant
6. Derek Edwards
7. Alexander Brand
8. Andre Dirrell
9. Badou Jack
10. Callum Smith
11. J’Leon Love
12. Marco Antonio Periban
13. Hadillah Mohoumadi
14. Peter Manfredo, Jr.
15. Nikola Sjekloca

I believe the best options for Dirrell’s voluntary defense would be against the likes of J’Leon Love, Callum Smith or Gilberto Ramirez. The rest of the bunch aren’t well known enough to make them worth fighting in my view.

It's a joke Chavez is even ranked #1 at 168. He's only had one fight there and that was against Vera a career 154/160 pounder. His rematch against Vera was at light heavyweight since Chavez came in at 172 or whatever it was. So literally he hasn't fought any 168 pound fighters and they have him #1 smh

Former middleweight champion Jermain Taylor has been charged with first-degree battery and aggravated assault following a shooting early in the evening on Tuesday at his home in Arkansas, according to Arkansas Online

While the shooting had initially been reported as wounding an intruder, the person shot was actually Taylor’s cousin.

The word is Taylor is currently being held w/o bond.

I was really hoping he would climb back to the top.
Why the hell would you shoot your cousin?

Must be a big ass cousin...
Taylor's had a couple run in's with the law before, couple years ago he had rape allegations but the woman later recanted:

The still unidentified, 27-year-old*woman was arrested last Friday*at a*Maumelle hotel after police were called due to a domestic disturbance with Taylor. According to the police report, the woman claimed she traveled*weekly*from Mississippi to*Arkansas to*meet Taylor for sexual services. The woman fled the room following an argument with Taylor and hurt her ankle falling down a flight of stairs. Police arrested her for possession of*unlabeled prescription*painkillers. Taylor left the scene before police arrived.

The woman then made the rape allegation while being treated at a*local hospital.

At press time, the woman is likely to not face any additional charges for the recanted rape allegation.

******************************************************************

Jermain Taylor dodged a bullet with this one. If there’s any silver lining, it’s that this embarrassing incident happened while Taylor is away from the spotlight and on a*quiet comeback. Had this happened when he was the reigning middleweight champ, it would have generated a lot more headlines. And considering that boxing, and many sports for that matter, are littered with celebrated people guilty for a lot more nefarious crimes, this will pass from memory in a few months.

Ya I remember that rape allegation. That was a while ago.
I just really believe that he has what it takes to be a champ again.
He was schooling with Abraham and Froch before the late last minute come from behind KO's. He could win rematches (probably not with Froch at this point but back then he could have).

I just read that a judge OK'd his bail (ABC News).
So the fight will go on!

25k bail. That's nothing...especially with a bonds man.

Loeffler confirms Rubio’s WBC interim title will be on line for Golovkin fight

Golovkin Rubio Golovkin vs. Rubio marco antonio rubio gennady golovkin By Dan Ambrose: Marco Antonio Rubio’s WBC interim 160 pound title will be up for grabs in his fight against WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27 KOs) on October 18th, according to Steve Kim and Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions.

This means that the winner of the Golovkin-Rubio fight will be the mandatory challenger for WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto. Unfortunately, it doesn’t mean that Cotto will necessarily face the winner of the Rubio-Golovkin fight, because Cotto could very well vacate his WBC title rather than face Golovkin or Rubio (59-6-1, 51 KOs).

Cotto could also lose his talked about fight next year against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. That’s a very real possibility. Cotto has looked good lately, but he’s done it against a shot Sergio Martinez and Delvin Rodriguez.

The Golovkin vs. Rubio fight will be taking place at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

“Tom Loeffler confirms that Rubios Interim WBC title will be on the line vs GGG on Oct 18th #Boxing #MexicanStyle,” Steve Kim said on his twitter.

The Golovkin-Rubio fight is a good one, but having the WBC 160 pound interim title up for grabs makes the fight that much more interesting. Even if Cotto or Canelo never face Golovkin, it still puts Golovkin or Rubio in the position where they can claim the WBC title by 2015.

That’s a good thing because we’ll get a unified champion, and help reduce some of the paper champions that are floating around the middleweight division. At this point you don’t know who the real deal is at 160.

At least we’re going to get a chance to find out who the paper champions are in 2015 unless the WBC gives Cotto or Canelo permission to bypass the winner of the Golovkin vs. Rubio fight so that they can face other opponents. Anything is possible, but hopefully the WBC doesn’t make that move so that boxing fans can find out if Cotto or Canelo are for real. I just want to see if they vacate rather than fight the Golovkin-Rubio winner. It’s going to look bad if they do vacate.

Mayweather: Thurman is too green

keith thurman floyd mayweather jr By Don Ech: This past week I have written two articles on Keith “The Beast” Thurman aka Keith “Thunder” Thurman aka Keith “One Time” Thurman which have generated over 50+ comments each.

I have chosen purposely to focus on Keith Thurman because it is totally obvious that something very strange is going on in the world of boxing concerning this young man.

In my view it seems we (fans) are being sold day in and day out on the idea that Keith Thurman is a nobody, not worthy, hasn’t really fought anyone and Thurman is all hype. The question I pose to you the reader is “are we the fans being fooled or is it true” that Keith “One Time” Thurman is just another hype job with no skills, no talent, and no power plus no marketability or is Keith Thurman deliberately being stalled and pushed backwards for the sake of business?

I have chosen to step outside the box and to deliberately avoid writing articles solely praising Mayweather, Pacquiao, Garcia, Golovkin, and Broner because in my opinion they are an entertainment “smoke screen” to drive our attention away from what’s really going on.

I believe Keith Thurman’s career is being precisely orchestrated and carefully misdirected for the purpose of keeping Floyd Mayweather’s risk to reward level as low as possible, as Mayweather approaches his last two fights after Marcos Maidana 2 under the direction of Al Haymon so Floyd Mayweather will exit the sport of boxing UNDEFEATED 49-0.

In a recent round table interview with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Leonard Ellerbe for his Sep 13 rematch with Marcos Maidana Floyd was asked.

Reporter: “Floyd who is on your “short list” of fighters coming up is Keith Thurman there”?

Mayweather: “(hesitating) umm umm I don’t you know um we don’t I don’t umm I have seen him I have seen him (Thurman) fight a little bit he’s still “GREEN “but yeah he (Thurman) goes out there and “tries” but it’s different at this level this is the “elite” league.

In my opinion, Floyd used an excellent move which was to down play the accomplishments of an exceptional fighter. I will use Floyd’s theory of “green” about three fighters he chose to fight and you guys tell me if these three names where ready for Floyd or where they also “GREEN”.

In Floyd’s last five fights my “GREEN” guys are Victor Ortiz, Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero and Canelo Alvarez and even Marcos Maidana before we knew how he would perform against Mayweather. In an effort to be fair look at each of these guys last five fights yourselves before they stepped in with Mayweather and be honest with yourselves what “major” names jump at you that gave these 4 fighters the right, the authority, the worthiness or in Thurman’s case who did these guys “fight” to deserve a shot? Were these fighters all “elite” level fighters when they fought Floyd? What level are Ortiz and Guerrero at now?

Canelo appears to be doing well but let’s be honest his wins against Lara & Trout were questionable. Looking back now Mayweather justified fighting Robert Guerrero by saying in almost every interview “Robert Guerrero is my “MANDATORY” so I guess he’s done something right to be here” so if that’s the case Keith “One Time” Thurman is now Mayweather’s “MANDATORY” fighter and I assume he also must have done something right to have that position.

Is it just coincidence that every “household name” that Keith Thurman has asked for have all turned him down? Is it a coincidence that all of those same fighters including Thurman are influenced and managed by the same manager Al Haymon who is best friends and also manages Mayweather Jr? I am not accusing anyone instead I am asking a simple question because I want to know what is going on with a fighter many claim is just a “hype job” and yet his own company is NOT hyping him?

In an interview conducted by “HustleBoss.com” Uncle and Trainer Roger Mayweather was asked about Keith Thurman.

Hustle Boss: “Can an aggressive crude guy with power beat Floyd”?

Roger Mayweather: “No No NO that aint gonna beat Floyd what a guy has to have is “boxing ability” he has to have a “strategy “that he can adapt to what Floyd do.

HustleBoss: “What about a young guy like a Keith Thurman young athletic and he can punch and he’s confident what about somebody like him”?

Roger Mayweather: “Well I mean that would probably be a GOOD fight whether or not he (Thurman) can beat Floyd I don’t know.”

Rumpelstiltskin @Rumpelstiltskin naner12 @naner12 it's looking like the fight is still on....
That's good. I don't want to speculate too much on what happened cause not a lot has come out. That's a pretty low bond for the using deadly force on someone, so who knows what's the actual story.
