Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, livid over the unconscionable demands of Floyd Mayweather Jr for pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao to undergo random blood tests as well as urine tests conducted by the US Anti Doping Agency before their planned March 13 fight told us late Wednesday morning, "is off as of now."

Arum made it clear that Pacquiao who has a phobia for needles and extracting too much blood which weakens him said he would gladly agree to have a blood test before the initial press conference and after the fight, plus urinalysis anytime he wants. What more? asked Arum.

Arum said "doctors will tell you that blood-testing is not even sure anymore and urinalysis is the state-of-the-art testing for drugs. But they don’t want the fight which is what I suspected from the beginning or they want to torture Pacquiao to throw him off his game.”

The astute promoter said he told them “absolutely not. That’s where we stand and we are prepared to walk away. I’m not going to bully this kid and Freddie (Roach) is adamant about that point.”

Arum said “they can go to hell as far as I’m concerned including (Richard) Schaefer although I don’t think its his idea. I think its Floyd’s idea and we are going to go on and do something else. This is an absolute outrage.”

He said the Nevada State Athletic Commission under its highly respected executive director Keith Kizer is "beside themselves" over the Mayweather demands and said “their drug testing is the best in the world and its an insult to them.”

Arum questioned the motives and asked “who is this ignorant, illiterate kid demanding this. Who is he? This has never ever happened in professional boxing.”

Pacquiao, in a statement issued by his adviser Michael Koncz said he had always wanted athletes to serve as role models in every sport and to keep sports free from drugs and that he was willing to undergo tests as he has always done in the past and come clean. Koncz said “we wanted to do the fight because that’s what the people wanted but obviously Mayweather is scared and looked for a way out..”

In an email to BoxingScene.com, insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said “Olympic style drug testing is not one blood test 30 days before the fight and one after the fight. It is random drug testing which would include somnewhere between 3-5 blood tests and 8-12 u,rine tests taken during the period January 1 to March 15. Blood tests by the way are taken in a non-intrusive manner and are less than one tablespoon.”

Arum mentioned several issues that arose during the negotiations day after day. He pointed out that Mayweather “had no intention of coming in at 147” which is the welterweight limit and then said he didn’t want to fight for the WBO title and we said okay, if you come an ounce over 147 you are going to pay us $10 million. Then this all started.”

Pacquiao’s conditioning expert Alex Ariza responded to the Mayweather camps demand that the blood testing go all the way up to the weigh in saying it was “ludicrous” pointing out that “there is nothing that they are going to find 24 hours before the fight that they cannot find five minutes after the fight. We are not refusing to give blood, we are not willing to give it that close to the fight.”

Ariza said he is convinced that Mayweather is “just posturing and the reality of the situation is Mayweather is looking for a reason to get out of this fight because Manny is going to give him the beating of a lifetime. He will sustain a beating that he never ever endured in his whole career in boxing. What he feels in his own small mind is that his legacy will go down being beaten by Manny Pacquiao.”

Manny doesn't have to do the blood tests if he doesn't want to, but Arum is wrong and there are steroids that go undetected in urine. There are other methods of cheating with out using anabolics. Manny could be doping his blood, which basically means you pull a bunch out and then put your own blood back in which increases the oxygen level in the cells. Gives you incredible stamina and is illegal to do in the olympics. A piss test isn't going to catch that.

Afraid of needles? He has tattoos, afraid or not that excuse is BS.

This is Floyd playing some type of mind games. The Nevada State Athletics commission already tests boxers before & after fights. No other boxers has to go through "Olympic style" drug testing, so Manny has the right to refuse this if he wants to. Not even boxers IN THE OLYMPICS have to give blood 48 hrs before the fight. It's a pretty ridiculous demand on Floyd's part.

They better get this shit figured out though and fast cuz this fight better not get canceled over some bullshit.

If I were manny, I would agree but I would demand something from floyd. Like a smaller ring (so floyd cant run as much) or a higher percentage of the fight purse, etc. If Floyd is going to demand something out of the ordinary I would demand the same in return.

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) - The reported welterweight title megafight pitting top boxers Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been called off, promoter Bob Arum told the Grand Rapids Press.

The Filipino boxer refused Tuesday to comply to the requested Olympic-style drug testing procedures.

The Mayweather's camp is asking fighters to submit to Olympic-type drug testing as outlined and mandated by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).

The said procedure is more rigorous than the drug testing performed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission and other state commissions.

Testing, under the Nevada commission, consists of a urine test for banned substances, once just before the fight and once immediately following the fight.

While drug testing conducted by the USADA involves random blood and urine testing before and after the fight.

The issues Floyd Mayweather Sr., the fighter's father, raised in earlier reports, accusing Pacquiao of taking illegal substances may have contributed to the current testing debate.

Pacquiao, 30, coming off a 12-round TKO of Miguel Cotto, has denied the accusations and indicated that he has never failed a drug test.

According to reports, Pacquiao, the current welterweight champion, is not comfortable with his blood being drawn within 30 days of the bout.

The Filipino champion has agreed, however, to have his blood drawn before the kickoff press conference and after the bout.

Mayweather, for his part reportedly indicated that he understands the Filipino boxer's refusal to have his blood drawn, but stressed fair play and the magnitude of the planned encounter next year.

In the event the drug testing squabble is settled, the bout, touted as the fight of the century, will reportedly be staged at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao, currently 50-3-2, with 38 KO's, recently became the record title holder in seven different weight classes.

Mayweather, who retired for nearly two years from 2007-09, remains undefeated at 40-0-0 with 25 KO's.

He is coming off a unanimous decision over Juan Manuel Marquez, his first fight since his return to the ring.

Pacquiao vs Ricky Hatton was called off and Pacquiao vs de la hoya was called off TWICE. This fight will still happen. Bob Arum will settle down, the smoke will clear and negotiations will continue. There is too much money to be made and everyone will realize that.

same here.

Another thing about this which is pointless is that certain things like HGH cannot be detected. The way the Olympics do it is they monitor an athletes blood over a long period of time, a year or more, and monitor the various chemicals and if certain ones rise and fall abnormally then they know you're on HGH, etc. Having these blood tests in a month period of time isn't necessarily going to prove anything, they would need to keep testing for months longer.

Also, the Olympic testing (US Anti Doping Agency) will drug test completely random times, meaning it could be at 4am, 1pm, 12:00am, etc. Pacquiao doesn't want to have to go through that, but he is willing to use alternative doping companies with a different protocals.

Haha, Bob Arum is a Quadruple OG.

Obviously, Team Mayweather is trying to gain the mental edge here. Good plan though, got Pacquiao backed into a corner...but I think they can figure out a way to schedule the tests so that they don't affect Pacquiao...and satisfy Team May.

If I was gonna make Millions and also be considered the real pound 4 pound champ I would agree to the STERIOD test.

What you guys wouldnt take them?

Now pac is gonna need some time to get them steriods out of his system.LOL

But if there is nothing to hide you would just take the test that way it makes Mayweather look that much more like a asshole.

Now is manny hiding something? Why is it so hard for some people to beleive it might be true?
