BAM BAM BIGELOW GOES FROM THE HIGHS OF BEING A WORLD CHAMPION TO FACING JAIL TIME
by Dave Scherer @ 10:26:00 AM on 11/17/2005

The St. Petersburg Times has posted a detailed story covering the motorcycle accident that 44 year-old Bam Bam Bigelow had in Florida last month, the one vehicle crash that occurred when he was driving his Harley down Highway 50 in Florida with his girlfriend Janis Remiesiewicz, 41. The report said that police are waiting for results of his blood test from the day of the accident and will proceed accordingly when they come in. Larry Coggins, a spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol said, "We are well aware of what the factors were that led to this crash. Charges are forthcoming. Absolutely." In the article, Bigelow says that he had "a few beers that day. But it wasn't nothing exceeding what people go overboard with. Who knows? It's all a blur. It doesn't matter. It happened."

As a result of the accident, Bigelow broke his nose and got some nasty cuts. His girlfriend broke her foot and has a scar on her eye. Initially, she was in very critical condition but has improved greatly since the accident.

The story also stated that Bigelow was hiding in Florida, from creditors and child support payments that he owed to his ex-wife, which totaled $8,909. While he has made an effort to pay some of what he owes in support this year, a spokesman said it's not enough and if he comes back to New Jersey, a bench warrant would probably be issued for his arrest. He has also been sued for non-payment of medical bills he has incurred in New Jersey, probably from his days on the indy circuit. They also stated that he pleaded guilty to marijuana possession in August of 2004.

They quoted Bigelow as saying, "I don't know if it's hiding or disappointment or what. But being Bam Bam Bigelow is a pain in the a--. You did this the first half of your life and now this is the second half and now you're bruised and battered. So what the hell can you do? What can you do?" The story said that Bigelow has pretty much become a transient, sleeping at his girlfriend or his brother's houses, but has no place of his own. All of the money that he made in the business, upwards of a million dollars per annum at times, is gone. He is now living off of Social Security disability.

Bigelow blamed his current lot in life off of the wrestling business. He said he was addicted to OxyContin for much of his career, but is clean now. He moved to Florida because the warmth makes his aching body feel better. Despite having nothing, he says he is happier now out of wrestling than he was in it. He just wants to leave Bam Bam behind and live as Scott Bigelow now. It was a really sad and sobering piece.
