When Canelo fought Floyd, Canelo didn't want the catchweight but he accepted it in order to make the fight happen. He acknowledged Floyd was the "a" side.
You realize that was against Money Mayweather for a gazillion dollars and an opportunity of a lifetime right? There was no mandatory situation, it was Floyd, champion of 147 and 154. Anyone would take that opportunity. And Canelo gets this gift of fighting Floyd on a massive PPV for what exactly? Narrowly beating Austin Trout in his only "step up" fight? Wooptie fucking do. Again, dude has had an easy path to stardom. I'm not blaming Canelo for that either, sometimes guys are instantly popular without doing much and have big time promoters right off the bat, while others guys have to start from the bottom and work their asses off for years before getting a shot (like Golovkin), if that shot ever comes at all.
Canelo had been fighting at 150 not long before. So let's not act like it was some massive concession Canelo had to make by going down two pounds for a gazillion dollars.
When Canelo fought Cotto, there was a weight issue there as well. Canelo also acknowledged Cotto as the "a" side and the fight happened.
What weight issue? They fought at 155 pounds, the weight Canelo was always fighting at.
Cotto was champion. Let's not forget Canelo was challenging Cotto for Cotto's middleweight belt. Canelo was the challenger. Again, tons of money.
When it came down to GGG, GGG didn't accept ANYTHING coming from Canelo in order to make the fight happen, so it took a lot longer than what GGG or GGG Stans wanted it to take.
This is where you fucked up.
Canelo/Golden Boy NEVER sent any contract offers. Golovkin rejected NOTHING. Sure, Oscar would tell the media weight was an issue, than money, but at the end of the day there was never a formal offer from Canelo. Golovkin turned down nothing.
The only thing Golovkin was adamant about was when he was mandatory to Canelo's 160 belt. Golovkin said since he's mandatory, it should be at 160. He also said, and his manager, that they would be willing to negotiate on that of absolutely necessary. Never happened. Canelo dropped the belt without even attempting to negotiate.
Bottom line is Canelo/Golden Boy didn't want the fight, it had nothing to do with weight or money. They just didn't want it until right now. You're admitting that by saying their plan the entire time was fighting Golovkin in September of 2017. That is always what they wanted. All that media talk prior was just that, talk and damage control from dropping the belt. If Canelo wanted the fight it would have happened. If Canelo wanted a catchweight of 158 pounds, it would have happened.
What a lot of people are seeing is that once Golovkin looked mortal against Jacobs, suddenly Canelo is willing and able.
