What is everyones opinion on the Kansas City Music scene... When I say that, I mean really what is the problem that we cant blow up. Some cats been saying for years who is the hopeful, Vell Bakardy say's one cat from Detroit thats in the town, some say's others. But honestly, I dont see a damned soul outside of the Strange camp. Not saying that they are our hopefuls (Strange) so get it right, but who is really making some noise. Here are some of my reasons...

-Not Collabing with the rgith people
-Local rappers, rap names are just too damned stupid and not likely to be heard on BET or anywhere on the radio
-Our stubbornness to not want to conform to what it takes to actually blow

Every now and then there is an artist that breaks out for about 30-45 minutes and has a buzz, but it dies down and that's that, we aint out there pulling off singles that lasts even a whole summer like Lil Jon, or other artists. Not "really" since, Lets Get Fucked Up, where it was just phenominal.
We also have that bootsy ass news paper for local talent that seems to me to be a waste of time, and it just poor quality with no name artists featured in it, with shit written under their pics like "With the Hit single "Ballin on the block" or something like that and we aint never heard the "HIT" single in our lives...
I think about this a lot and try to figure what sound, and what wordplay it would take to actually do that, and for Kansas City, it seems impossible.

Fill a brotha in on how yall feel about this and what the fuck is wrong???

It seems as if KC is really making its mark on the map as far as producing really good rap artists. Besides the neighborhood vets 'n all, I mean, Strange has really outdone itself so far. Good chance more good shit is to come. But..you're right. Strange Music aside, there aren't really any labels out there that I've seen...or that I have heard of. Oh well, it's comin', one way or another.

As far as rappers being on BET is concerned...I taped Tech N9ne's Imma Tell, when it came out on BET. Haven't seen it since. Same with Esham's "Woo Woo Woo". Seen it a couple of times, haven't since then. Radio? Please. You won't hear the best rap listenin' to the radio or watching TV. That kinda shit is mainstream...not that Tech shouldn't be, but seriously. I was practically introducing midwest rap to Floridians (who think acts like "Lil' Flip" are underground). Anyways, you get the point.

You have a mentality that if it aint street it aint right in K.C. Alot of cats with skills, but the work ethic don't match, Some cats would rather beef and keep it gangsta then do anything really productive to blowing up the scene, the shows that are thrown on the independent level are garbage, not the acts, the shows, well some of the acts. There is alot of growing up that needs to be done and realization that this is a show business, but no one wants to do business with a dumb ass gangsta that dont have the business mind to get cats with influence and power to bacc them. Kansas City is full of talent with no direction, as they say too many indians and not enuf chiefs...lol

BIGGTRUB, you are right about that when you say the work ethic is garbage. I have so many ideas for our rap scene in Kansas City, and other locals, but it seems as if too many cats have that punk ass ego that gets in the way all the time... I would like to see so many artist in the city collab, and stick together but they are all on that "I aint fucking with you cause I'm this or they are that!" mentality.

JLMACN, I know that Fat Tone has, and has had a buzz, but that's as far as it goes. Behind that buzz is someone that everyone knows as infamous and not wanting to deal with him on any level...
When I say Strange, I pretty much generalize it, but in all honesty, Tech is the only one doing it like he his...

Zer0, that picture has me in tears dude. To the fact that, I laughed so hard, my hands are unable to write nor type. Ya know what I mean...

TheVille, Haters indeed... Niggas lyrics are just plain as day man. I aint heard anything eyebrow raising from these artists yet. And then the names, "HA" you'll never see those names in the Source!

TheRKK, Kansas City is making its mark where its already been made. We are doing the same shit with the same cats from the same areas all the time. So it's nothing new... It isn't like we walking around saying, Yo, you heard that new Popper feat. Bone Crusher, or you heard that new (chuckles for a moment) Macc James feat Mobb Deep. Ya know, shit like that! Its always, Fat Tone feat Rich, or Rich feat. Fat Tone or someone from the Bay that's been heard a million times before...

KC_Vett, yeah, muthafucka's be acting like bitches, and I can also tell you that from experience. These niggas act like they can walking around in NY or Atlanta and be known by all. These local industry nigga's aint friends, they know how to pretend! Haha...

The way I see it is still F.T.I. but then again, it's sitting back and actually watching what others are doing wrong and go the other way. That's my direction there. I've seen the best and the best of the worst, and I feel as long as we are trying to be selfish and not help each other, and get together and go do this shit together, then what KC_Vett said will be true. Niggas try to say that Tech has started acting Hollywood, but they the ones that aint blowing up and they acting Hollywood.

_
I pose a threat like a foreigner I'm warning ya/
I bomb niggas that claim tough with a formula/
I'm from a city where rap niggas be boring ya/
And hate on cats with stacks go ask the coroner.

DJ Loon got it right. even if you got boys, if there trying to do shit too as soon as you get the opp. dont think they wont step on you. The lable I work with has done shit with everyone from Tech N9ne to Bushwick Bill, from Spice 1 to Brotha Lynch, and were still fighting. Man keep your head up and dont lose heart. You gotta fight to make it anywhere in this world and if anyone has the chance to stomp you and take whats yours or hold you back they will, But if you can find some down to earth people that beleave in you and what your doin dont let them go cause with them youll make it. Its all in your determination. If you want it, get it. But dont hang your self out to dry. Hope this helps, it is just my oppinion.
